The Unexpected Bride (Hope's Crossing #4)
by
Cynthia Woolf
The author does an outstanding job at showing how hard it is
for a women doing the same job as a man to get equal pay and respect not only
from other doctors but from the people she is treating. It is never easy being
a mail order bride going to the unknown meeting, marrying someone you do not
know but to try to do a job having her husband not stand beside you supporting
you is even harder. I really loved this
story you can tell the author put a lot of thought and time into it. She does a
wonderful job showing the struggles not only of one woman but the town and its
people.
Alice has little choice after her husband is murdered to
become a mail order bride she has her little one to think of as well as getting
away from a place with bad memories. It is really hard for her when she loved
her husband so much letting another man in. I really could understand her and
her reasoning along with her fight to be a doctor herself. I really liked this character.
Just as I understood her side I also understood Jeremiah
side in not knowing how much she knew and if she really knew her stuff. I think
he was really pulled in two ways giving her what she wanted but looking out for
the town’s people to give them the best care he could. He is a very understanding
man that is until he wants all of him for his self finding her dead husband
stands between them is hard for him to deal with.
Both of these have a lot to learn and will have to trust
along with give and take. I really liked how Alice took control giving the Doc
more of a life setting hours and putting limits to things. I just loved how they slowly became a family
bring others into their life. The characters here will steal your heart from
the darling little girl to the adopted grandfather. Things are not easy for this couple they will
have to go through a lot to build the life they want. Each finding out just what
they are missing but neither willing to be the first to make the first step.
The author gives you passion and chemistry as she throws in a little danger and
mystery. As they finally start working out their issues there is danger around
them will they get to find the true love before one of them dies?
This was really well written bring back a time when women
had to fight for every step they made. You can feel the struggles, pain and
sorrow of trying to make a living taking a stand in what you believe. Finding common
ground and letting go of your past to try again. I was pulled in from the first
page which had my heart pounding. Ms. Woolf knows how to deliver a story that
is not only entertaining but keeps you hanging on until the end giving you a
compelling read you get lost in. I loved
these characters and what the author bring to this story. It was a story I was
very invested in and could not put it down.

Summary
Alice Carter found herself a widow, her doctor husband
murdered as he left the hospital where he worked. Alice, too, is a doctor and
thought she wouldn’t have any trouble finding a position with the hospital
where her husband had been so well regarded.
She was wrong. Seems no one wanted a female doctor, especially one in mourning. Seeing no other way out, Alice becomes a mail-order bride to a doctor in Hope’s Crossing in the Montana Territory.
Dr. Jeremiah Kilarney, needs help. He needs a nurse to assist him with his patients. Knowing he has to marry the woman or she’ll be inundated with marriage proposals from the lonely miners, he goes to Matchmaker & Co. Specifying his need for a nurse or someone willing to be trained as one, he’s surprised when Alice Carter, doctor, steps out of the stagecoach with her precocious daughter Melly.
Can Alice and Jeremiah have a future when ghosts from her past still hold her heart?
Hope's Crossing can be the answer to their future or the end of their dreams.
