The Girl He Used to Love

The Girl He Used to Love
by Amy Vastine

My Review
One death rocked the whole town leaving two people broken hearted, lost and lonely as they go down different paths trying to deal with the tragic of not only losing the person they love but each other. I know we all have done things we wish we could change if only there was a re-do button to turn back time where we could take something back we said or do things differently. Both Dean and Faith wish they had this button not only to take back things they said but to take back the secret they hid that changed their life forever. Guilt is a powerful thing that if you let it, it will run your life taking all the pleasure you have giving you nothing but pain. Dean and Faith both hold the guilt of one night that ended their love for each other neither forgiving nor forgetting their selves and each other.

Dean is a wonderful, caring man he makes a wonderful character. You heart goes out to him as he faces his past bring back memories he would rather forget. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, works to hard making dreams come true for so many why he outruns his past. They say you can never go home for Dean this is true he hasn’t been home since the accident that changed his life. He should have known better than to take the back road near his home town he just was in a hurry to get back to Nashville. With a flat tire and one heck of a rain storm he walks back to the town he left behind so many years ago. As he walks into the Sundown Bar and Grill who does he see but the one women he could never forget and the one who tore his world apart.

Faith is a sweetheart of a lady who is so giving she has her own demons she is dealing with. The guilt has eaten her alive so she works herself to an early grave trying to help everyone giving back to hopefully help to make a wrong a right. Why Dean has run away she has stayed and faced the demons every day for the last 5 years. Every Sunday she goes to the grave, sets flowers on it and has a talk with the one person she hurt the most. With Dean’s return it sets her world in a spin. She has lost so many people in the last few years now it looks like she will be losing her brother as well. Why do all those she loves leave her?

This was a very well written powerful story of two people losing so much and getting a second chance. There are so much hurt, pain, and sorrow that have taken so much from these two families. The author gives you a very believable story that could have happen to so many people. It is a very touching read that gets you right in your heart making you wish you could jump right into the pages grabbing each one and holding them why taking away their pain. She gives you wonderful characters you can relate to as she spins a tale of second chances, forgiveness, love, hurt as they learn it is ok to love and be happy. One may never forget but it is ok to laugh, remember the good times, and move on to find happiness that one deserves. But most of all one has to forgive their selves for things they feel they have done wrong.

I really loved Dean and Faith’s story. It was a story that made you take a long hard look at one’s life. I promised myself years ago to never say anything wrong or hateful before you walk away you never know when it will be the last time and the last word you will ever say to the person you love. This was a story where the author hooked me from the first page giving me a read I could not put down. One I read at one setting. I had to know the secret but it seems there is more than one which will give these characters a shock of their lives. The author gives you a few twists that make this a very interesting and entertaining read before you know it you are so invested in these characters. I look forward to reading more from this author. I have really enjoyed her writing style and her plot.

Overview
The past will always be between them
He swore he'd never return home. Then a flat tire lands Dean Presley back in Grass Lake, Tennessee, and he's forced to confront the woman he left behind. Faith Stratton was once the love of his life. Now her gifted brother could be the rising Nashville star Dean needs for his struggling music label. But it means taking Sawyer away from the horse therapy farm that Faith's so proud of. That won't be easy, especially since those old feelings that started all the trouble… Well, let's just say he can't go back there, because he doesn't want to relive the memories of the terrible accident that drove them apart.
