All Business

All Business
by Julia Bright

Two broken souls meet by chance one works his life away the other is trying to get back on track taking all the jobs she can to keep her dream alive. One player meets reality from one broken woman who got everything taken away from her. Apart these two are a mess but together they make life worth living. The author gives a well written story that is believable and could be true. Michael is very alpha he makes demands and expects them to be followed. Kim is very strong and won’t give in to his demands that is if she can help herself. Michael does the one nightstands oh he has needs, but he isn’t in it for the long haul that is if he can keep his heart out of it. He finds it isn’t that easy when it comes to Kim.

I loved the chemistry between these two, the plot is good, well written and touching. I felt so sorry for Michael he is hell-bent to make the same mistakes as his father, but he does see his mistakes and does say he is sorry in such a way that you believe him and your heart reaches out to him. Kim hummm her story is a sad story one man tries his hardest to take way everything she has worked for leaving her working any job she can to just stay ahead. It is a good plot with interesting characters that at time I had to chuckle at as they dance around romance they can’t help but feel. It was a good read that I enjoyed.

Modern Persuasion

Modern Persuasion
By: Sara Marks
Narrated by: Diane Lehman
Length: 4 hrs and 6 mins
Unabridged
Release date: 11-20-17

This is such a sad story of lost love to a second chance.  Years ago Emma chose her career and family over love for many different reasons. Now she comes face to face with her past love that has a book and movie out. This book she did the editing years ago she knows this story by heart and the changes she knows are about her. Spending time with him she isn’t sure she made the right choice. As they get to know each other again, working through their past dealing with the anger and the people today it is a long road that they might not ever over come.

I loved this narrator she brings so much to the audio you can hear the laughter and sadness in her voice. Giving pause where it is needed to let it all sink in. Her emotions are outstanding as well as her character voices. Her male voices sound so manly, strong and real. They really fit the character so well even the one with the gay man it was just wonderful. Her female voices are just as good soft sweet to the older women and the one that acts so much younger than she is. There are no background noises, no repeating of words and no volume changes. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. Her normal voice was just as great as her character voices. She really adds so much to this audio. She has a way of changing her tones to really pull the reader in giving you a wonderful listen. There were times I felt like crying and others where I couldn’t help but chuckle. This is the first time I have listen to this narrator and it sure will not be the last.

What a touching and emotional read that really grabs you from the characters to their emotions. You never really know if things will work out until the end.  You are held spellbound until the end as you watch people’s hearts break others trying to control people and how it all affects them.  I loved the humor and emotions that went with this story. Yes it was sad and emotional but it also makes you chuckle. I have not read the Austen classic but this book was just a wonderful listen that really held my interest. I had trouble putting it down.

A Mother's Choice

A Mother's Choice

By: Kristin Noel Fischer

Narrated by: Renata Friedman

Length: 7 hrs and 34 mins

Unabridged

Release date: 01-25-16

Language: English

Publisher: Kristin Noel Fischer

What an emotional, caring, loving, giving read I have read in a long time. I had listened to this a few weeks ago but somehow forgot to post my review. It is a review that will take a lot of thought to show just how powerful it is to the listener.  I really do not think words can tell how much this will touch you or the emotions you will go through. The author keeps you guessing as Nadine relives her life all the hardships that her and her best friend go through. It is a very realistic story that will touch you in so many ways. I have to say I was guessing almost until the end as to what she did and what the big secret was.

I loved how Ms. Friedman puts the emotion into this audio really making you feel like you are there with the characters. The character voices are outstanding they seem so real almost like you can reach out and touch them. It is a very emotional and powerful story that the narrator adds so much to. She uses the correct tones, pitch and voice that really fits the characters. I was pulled in from the very first page as she takes you through the past life of Nadine, her husband, their friends and best friends. I had no trouble picturing the scenes as they were happening. I really felt like I was part of the story it was just so real. Her many different character voices were outstanding from her male to her female. You always know who is talking and what they are feeling. There is no background noise, no volume changes nor any repeating of words. It is a very clean, crisp and powerful audio that pulls the listener in taking you back in time to a woman’s life that had so much and lost even more. You can hear the smile or laugh and disappointment, heartache and love in each character. Word cannot say what an outstanding job this narrator has done. It is the first time I have listen to her work and she blew me away.

The author has done an outstanding job keeping the mystery going keeping you guessing to the outcome. I loved the twists and turns, the unanswered questions that drive the reader nuts trying to work it out. There is a lot you won’t understand for a little while because the author isn’t giving to many clues away.  She knows how to keep the reader hooked and keeping the story interesting as she spins her web around your heart leaving you in aww to the outcome.  She starts off with a little old sweet lady that knows what she wants and has a little sass to go with it. She is taken back in time to her first meeting with the love of her life and all the hardship the go through.   Nadine is a very sweet girl but the cards are stack against her and her true love. Much goes on as they are torn apart going in different directions. The one thing that always stands true is her friendship with her best friend. They have always been there for each other through thick and thin even when distance keeps them apart. It isn’t all honey and roses but it isn’t all bad, the author gives you a believable well told story of love, lost, happiness, and the unthinkable until relationships are held on by a thread. You will not be able to guess the outcome until you are almost to the end of the story. By then you are so very hooked with tears in your eyes. This is a very fast pace, thrilling, sad and very emotional read that will touch you to your very soul.

My reaction is wanting to reach in and pull the characters out of the pages more than once. My heart broke for so many at the same time it is such a very cheerful story. It has a powerful message and so unselfish it will break your heart. I know I could never be this unselfish and so giving. I have never read any of this authors work but she had me hook, line and sinker from the first page. I have picked this as one of my favorite reads of the year. Once you pick it up and start it you will understand why. The audio really brings this to life. I doubt I would have had the same reaction if I had read it.  There is no way you will want this book to end, the secret is big the power of love is even bigger. This is a story that will stay with you for a long time. Come listen to a touching story which will change the way you think about life, love and what true happiness really is.

Finding Fiona

Finding Fiona
by Donna Fasano

Another great book by this author she has incorporate a delightful mix of mystery, secrets, humor and romance to give her readers a story that really makes you feel the humor and sorrow. Fiona and her husband are busy sometimes not seeing each other for days. When he comes up missing and she doesn’t know when the last time she saw him things aren’t looking so good.

The characters are great, I loved the mystery, drama from her friends, the twists and turns the author gives. Secrets are just that until you tell someone else and they always come out most of the time when you do not expect it leaving you world turned upside down. This is a very emotional read with your feelings all over the place first you are low and then high laughing then you get a twist your repeating all the mixed feelings again. I really enjoyed the plot and story it is really different from I am use to from this author. I really like the change and hope to see more of this type of writing from her.

Summary
If her husband turns up alive—she'll kill him!

Explaining to the seriously sexy cop why she hasn't noticed her husband has been missing for three days is both embarrassing and sobering. But the day Fiona Rowland lifts her head above the churning chaos of kids, carpools, and a million things to do, annoyance turns to fury...then to worry. Where is Stanley?

Having one of those wake-up-and-smell-the-coffee moments changes the way a woman looks at things: marriage, money, family, and friends. And when her best pal from high school arrives (packing her own secrets) to lend support, it turns out even the past isn't quite what it seems. Scrambling to make sense of the drama unfolding, Fiona discovers there's an upside to having your whole world turned upside down. It's easier to grab the good stuff.

A delightful mixture of women’s fiction, chick-lit, romantic comedy, and mystery, Finding Fiona has something for every reader. The discussion questions included at the back of the book make this the perfect novel for book clubs and reader groups.
