Between Home and Heartbreak

Between Home and Heartbreak (Gambling Hearts #2)
by Jacqui Nelson

I enjoyed this as the author spins a tale of mystery, suspense and danger with lots of twists and turns. At times I found it a little confusing. It didn’t hold my interest as much as some of Ms. Nelson other works has. The story begins where Lewis and Jane are riding holds lot of mystery as she rides away never to be seen again. Fast forward 18 years with a women coming to Lewis home saying she is his long lost friend demanding his land that is rightful hers. He is sure this is not the case but she holds facts that only Jane would know. I loved the mystery around Eldorado and the hints she gives Lewis. It was really interesting and holds your attention.

Danger is near with many unanswered questions. Someone wants this land and they are willing to kill for it. The mystery is why they want the land and if Eldorado Jane is not his Jane who is she and where is Jane. As they answers unfold you are left in the balance of life and death as one and then another die. Will Lewis, his friends and Eldorado Jane make it out alive, what about Jane?

The romance is a slow build as these two works out some major issues. Friendships will be built along with strong bonds. I really enjoyed visiting characters from the first book it was nice to see how their lives were going along. It was exciting read just not as exciting as some of this authors work. The dangerous scenes do leave you holding your breath waiting to see who will make it out alive. The characters are wonderful, the scenes are in such vivid detail that you can picture them. It is a great addition to this series. It is an outstanding read just doesn’t hold me on the edge as some of her other books have. Does that mean it isn’t worth your time NO it was exciting and a very enjoyable story with a great plot, it adds a lot to the series. I can’t wait to see what the next book holds.
