Grandma's Wedding Quilts

Grandma's Wedding Quilts - THE PREQUEL
by Kate Cambridge

This sets up the whole series with some big surprises as the author takes you through the donation of a trunk with a few quilts in them. Hannah just knows they are special she can just feel it in her bones.  The quilts are unusual after looking over them it looks like they are trying to tell a story. With a little research she finds the sister of the daughter who donated them. After talking with her she knows she must find more answers.  She turns to an old friend who she knows from collage who just happens to be her secret crush from days gone by. Together they research and find out more about the family and the grandmother who made these quilts with love for her family. At the end of this story you are in for a surprise that will just about bring tears to your eyes.

This is a short fun read filled with a lot going on in short time. You are never left guessing as to what is going on. Every scene plays a very big part in the telling of this story. There are no fillers at all just a nice clean fun read with meaning, wishes, needs, and love of an old woman who wants to keep her family quilts alive and protected.  There is sadness that makes all wish these quilts had been found earlier but the story has lots of meaning bring together people from long ago to the people of the present.

I really loved these characters from Hannah to Audrina their story really touched me. I doubt anyone can read this and not feel the pain, love and the pull from this family. My heart breaks for each of these characters for everything they gain they must lose something. The author leaves you with a mystery of where and who has the quilts. You will find out just how important tracking down the quilts are not only to the museum who needs find away to bring income in if they want to keep the doors open but to the family who the quilts belong to.

I thought this was really well written, I love the mystery as well as the big ending that just broke my heart and made me smile big. I really like that there is still mystery to be found out. This is a great start to an outstanding series. I can’t wait to read them all.

When a trunk with two quilts is donated to the museum, Hannah's boss thinks she's wasting her time chasing down the history of the quilts, regardless of their beauty; but Hannah persists. She knows there's something special about these quilts, and a story that demands to be told.

Little does Hannah know, her friend Callum, a researcher and consultant, plays an unexpected a role in her investigation that leads to questions and discoveries that threaten the foundation of all she holds most dear.

My Review

I have really enjoyed this series Ms. Bybee is a very talented author who knows how to spin a tale as she keeps you entertained. I do have to say this isn't one of my favorites so far in this series. The author does hit on some very serious issues of teen abuse and run away. I loved the way Karen helps the young teens even at her own cost. Zach was a great character I really did like him. I honestly thought when Karen and Michael would work it out and stay married when I read the first part in the story before. The author never did tell if Michael really had a secret it was hinted at. The story is built mostly around Karen and Zach meeting falling for each other and Karen keeping Michael secret. The author does tell the story in easy following style with class.

The only issue I had with the story is some things are just a no-no and you do not do. If they had been dating etc I would have went with it but if you are married you do not hook up with your brother/sister wife/husband. Being in this spot once myself (which was a very touchy issue not saying anything but walking away with a no thank you) the word that always comes to mind is NO THANK YOU and move on. Nothing good can come out of an affair and one of this type is BAD.  I did think the author carried it off nicely I just didn't care for this story line. It would have been one thing if everyone in the family new it was a fake marriage, since Zach didn't he should have made sure they were never alone. Just my two cents...

Tanya Eby did an outstanding job as narrator her words are always clean. You male and female voices are great. She hits on the correct tones and emotions that you feel you can feel them. She always gives you a wonder audio with a very clear listen, no background noise. You can not tell if or when she takes a break between chapters. You have no trouble telling who is talking and the change from male to female voices is easy and clear. I love listening to this narrators voice it is always a pleasure picking up one of her audios.

I have to say the author does change things and rock this series. The plots are different and she does keep them interesting. When you think you know what she has planned for her characters she changes it and takes it a different way. The one thing I love in this series is it is based on family and friends value. It doesn't seem so when most of these people meet through rent a marriage but each one has style and a goal. A lesson of what is important as the author gives you a very touching romance. I thought it was a good listen just wasn't my favorite, with any series you have some you do not care for as others. I am glad I listened to this it fills in some places that would be missing as the series continues. I am really looking forward to listening to the rest of this series.
