After Love (Austin Heroes #1)
by Kathy Clark
My Review
I loved this the author gives a little action, pull and tug
of love, humor, family, about the arm force, DEA a few hot men and a few twists
what else could you ask for. Nick is a love them and leave them kind of man who
sure doesn’t like it when the shoe is on the other foot. After a nasty divorce
he isn’t about to put his heart on the line again that is until he meets one
hot dog trainer Jamie. He just might find he is the one being trained, run for
the hill Nick before she and her dog gets a hold of you.
Poor Nick can’t seem to get a break or do anything right. He
doesn’t need a women or a partner. That is until his boss said enough and
decides to bring Nick in line with a K-9 dog. Nick is a tough bad boy who doesn’t
take any crap. He believes in upholding the law and getting his man any way he
can. This sometimes gets him in a mess. I really liked Nick he is strong and
not much gets him down. He has a smart mouth and attitude. You are just going
to love his Grammy she is a doll and makes him roll his eyes more than once. A
true 60’s flower child you are in for such a treat between her and Harley.
Jamie is a lovely lady who has a lot on her mind and on her
hands. She is trying to run a business and help her brother deal with coming
home from the war. Her k-9s help many people for many different reasons. She
has known the worse pain and doesn’t want to live it again. Nick just pulls her
in maybe just maybe they can work together and have a little fun playing
between the sheets.
I loved the chemistry between Nick and Jamie, Harley is a
doll who will grab your heart and take it away. I love the chemistry between
Nick and Harley both feeling each other out and working together. Harley is a
very smart dog with a wonderful personality and I even see
a sense of humor in him. The author gives you some great supporting characters
also with a sense of humor to keep you laughing. A few characters you get to
know a little about and I feel sure they will be in the next few books in this
series. I loved the first part and the ending. The middle in places was great
and other places a little slow. All in all this was very much a page turner for
me. I had to find out what other mess these two would get into. They kept me
laughing and even a few places where my heart just about stopped. I am so
looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I felt the author gave a
wonderful story which reaches out and pulls you in. I enjoyed her writing
style, the conflict she brings to it and the characters as well as the heartache,
love and laughter.

Book Description
For
romantic-suspense junkies and fans of Nora Roberts and Karen Robards,
bestselling author Kathy Clark kicks off her Austin Heroes series with a
pulse-pounding tale of two wounded souls tempted by a dangerous
proposition: new love.
DEA agent Nick Archer puts his life on the line every day. A former Marine, he fears nothing . . . except commitment. Nick has no trouble finding women eager to warm his bed, and no problem sending them on their way the morning after. Relationships don’t mix with risky careers, a fact Nick learned the hard way after his marriage fell apart. He’d go it alone if it weren’t for his new K-9 partner—and the stunning trainer who makes Nick sit up and take notice.
Just like her service dogs, Jamie Chambers knows how to sniff out trouble. From the moment Nick swaggers into her kennel, she knows he’s heartbreak waiting to happen, and he wastes no time getting under her skin. Hell, he doesn’t even like dogs. As a cop’s widow, Jamie has felt the sting of loss in the line of duty, yet she recognizes something of her own pain in Nick’s smoldering gaze. Jamie knows there are no guarantees in life. But a moment of pleasure, however fleeting, holds the promise of forever—and for that, Jamie’s willing to take the plunge.
