The Widow's Keeper (The Second Wife Book 2)

The Widow's Keeper (The Second Wife Book 2)
by Kishan Paul

Just when I think if she goes the way I think she will she is going to piss me off she turns the tables goes that way and makes me enjoy it. This doesn’t have as much action or darkness as the first one had but it is just as good with an ending that will lead into the next book in the series. It was hard for me to get a handle on Shariff his emotions or mind was all over the place which made it a great read. At times I didn’t care for him and others I felt sorry for him. David and Alyah story along with their friends just about broke my heart. There is a recap on the past book where my heart broke all over again for the little boy sent into the mall to find his death. I felt the pain just as much as I did in book one, I loved that little boy. Rizwan you hear a lot about but only meet him for a short time, he and his son have a lot in common. This was a suspenseful read that has drama with lots of twists and turns that I was totally hook on from one page to the next.

The narrator does a wonderful job with the narration. Her character voices are wonderful all though some sound very close together. She pulls you in with the emotions she puts in her voice you can hear the angry, sadness, happiness, excitement, fear and so much more. I have also read this book when it first came out I am not sure which one I like more both add so much and I see a different side from both. I loved the accents she used which made this feel realistic and real. It really is a very powerful audio that pulls you in hooking you and keeping you invest throughout. It was another one I had trouble putting down. There are no background noises, no volume changes, if any breaks were taken I could not tell. Her character voices were great, I always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. It will be an audio that I will listen to again.

You learn a little more about David and Ally's after the kidnapping how hard it was for them to hang on working through their problems well mostly Ally’s issues which was hard for David. This leads up to the here and now which is filled with pain, sorrow, regret and learning to live again, I guess you could stay starting over. There is a dark side but not as dark as the first book. A lot is lost but a lot is gained between these pages. The book does have a happy ending for the here and now but leaves it open to what will happen in the future. There is a love interest kind of which is done in a way that you are all for it.

The writing style pulls you in with a powerful hold on your heart. It is a book you don’t want to put down. It is written in a way that it was easy to picture each scene. It wasn’t long before I became a part of the story and each character held my full attention. Ally and I had long talks as I tried to pull her one way but she was hell bent on going another. She is one stubborn woman when she makes up her mind it is made no matter how much anyone tries to talk her out of it. David and I had a few chats too, I spent some time yelling at him. He made me just about cry. As much of a heart puller as book one was this one was is as well but in a different way and for different reason.

When you come to the ending you better grab some tissues it just about made me cry, in a good way. Ally really shows us what she is made of and just what the true meaning of love is. She has some very hard choices to make but never blinks once, she makes her stand and sticks with it. It has been a pleasure getting to know such a strong women who just about always puts others first. I would not trade places with her for nothing in this world. I liked, loved and adored her, she is way stronger than I will ever be.

In closing if you haven’t read The Second Wife you should I picked it as my favorite read the year it came out. If you are thinking about reading The Widow’s Keep think no more pick it up and give it a read you will love it. Both of these books are a keeper and a book you will want to read again and again. From the characters to the plot it is a book worth buying. I doubt you will be able to put it down.

To the author: I really have to say you did it again giving me a read and characters I just adore. Going back to the end of book 1 I thought of many ways book two would go. I thought if you go one way I will not like you much. What I found is it didn’t matter what way you went you have always been able to pull me in giving me an entertaining read I can’t put down. A book I want to reread over and over again. Tears, sadness, and sorrow is filled with hope, love and survival. I JUST LOVED IT! I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

Dan McCall's Bride

I know I know I am doing a lot of audios right now but there is much around the house to get done, from butching to planting and everything in between.

Dan McCall's Bride: Mail Order Misdelivery, Book 1

Written by: Barbara Goss
Narrated by: R. William James
Length: 4 hrs and 24 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:09-01-17
Publisher: Barbara A. Goss

When you are women traveling on a train by yourself to meet the man you agreed to marry through a mail order bride ad and your train is taken over, they kidnap you just long enough to get away, throw you down, you hit your head, and everything goes black. You wake up not knowing where you are or who you are what do you do? You latch on to the man that saves you and becomes your hero but what do you do when the man doesn’t want to be latched on to? You hold on for dear life since he is the only person you know. This is the easy part but what do you do when your attend comes for you? I can tell you this there are a lot of twists and turns in this story that hold your attention. Just when you think it has all gone south there is another turn in the road.

The narrator does a wonderful job he really delivers the emotion of his characters giving a wonderful entertaining audio. His female and male voices are wonderful, you always know who is talking and just what they are feeling. He has a smooth strong voice that gives just enough pauses between each character to build the story to its height. No background noises, no volume changes just a smooth clean and clear audio. I thought his performance was wonderful. If any breaks were taken I could not tell.  I could really hear the pain, confusion and sorrow in Leila voice along with the uneasiness and confusion in Dan’s voice. The outlaws where great he really bought them to life as he gives them anger, confusion and defeat to their voices.  This is the first time I have listen to any of his work I was very impressed.

The story I am torn I can understand why Leila felt the way she did but I am unsure in that time period if a women would go the lengths she did. If she had some more experience I would go along with it but to be honest who am I to say what a person would do when they has amnesia. I really wanted to feel sorry for her but with her action I just could not.  Dan is who I felt the sorriest for as he tries to do what is right but she isn’t having any of that.  He really is a man of honor and practice what he preaches.  As he comes to understand he does has feeling for her he still can’t work through marrying her and leaving her behind with his dangerous job. There are so many things in their way and what about the man is to marry.

What the author gives you is a very entertaining story filled with action from the train robbery, cattle rustlers in one exciting read that pulls you in and takes you back in time to when the west was a very wild place to live. She brings religion into it with spiritual meaning in a clean story about a man who put god first but is tempted by a women who he really would love to have.

Sunday Wild Child

Sunday Wild Child

Written by: Ethel Cook-Wilson
Narrated by: Reagan Boggs
Length: 6 hrs and 27 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:07-03-17
Publisher: Ethel Cook-Wilson

When I first saw this up for review I thought it would be more of a raw book on abuse and such but really it was a very well thought out book of two people mother and daughter telling their view points on the same issues as they happen. There is some abuse and racism along with a few other things but it is told with class that does shock you but not in an over bearing way. A mother has to deal with an abusive husband that needs to show his manhood by producing children. He started out as a wonderful father and husband turns to drinking and evil ways showing his true feeling not only to his family but the blacks in the town they are in. Going through one town after another with nothing to their name living on what jobs he can find leaving them with little or nothing to eat. One woman tries her best to be the best mother who came from money but was disowned when she married. She learns the hard way how to not only grow as a person but finds her back bone. To a daughter who is determined to not be like her mother she takes the world by storm getting in trouble showing the world no one will get her down. No man will ever treat her like her father treats her mother. As people look down on them, makes fun of them and talk about them this family stands proud.

Ms. Boggs narration is wonderful, her character voices are a delight from the tough hateful men to the lady who gives all, to the ones that try to take what do not belong to them. Her children voices really pull you in as they show their hurt, anger and stand proud. The narrator really puts a lot of emotion into this audio you can hear the desperation, anger, hope, fear, the little joy and happiness they have in her tones as she takes them through the years and all they learn. She really put a lot of thought into each character and how she would portray them.  Her voices and tones give so much meaning to how the story builds and to what is happening. As she takes you on the journey the author writes, her voices keeps you spellbound taking you back in time when things were different and people got away with more in how the deal with each other. There are no background noises, no volume changes, no repeating of words. Her voices show true emotions that really pull you in. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. I was a very clean crisp audio that I got lost in. Ms. Boggs did an outstanding performance that I had trouble putting down. I found things to do so I could learn more about these characters and their lives. I loved her accents they really pull you in with the emotion she gives them. Her male voices were just as compelling as her females. As the story builds she takes you back in time giving you a heart wrenching compelling listen that hooks you and keeps your interests. My husband isn’t into audios but even he sit and listen for awhile. He even chuckled a few times at the slang and what was happening.

There were many characters that my heart went out to so many sad times that you wonder how they could go on. The one that hurt the most was a little color boy and all he went through. As the mother and daughter struggle to get along the author pulls you in from one issue to the next giving a compelling read of both sides. It is a story of compassion, heartbreak learning to start over and finding what truly is important as a family breaks apart and tries to pull its self back together. They lose it all and found their way back to the living, giving life new meaning and watch to see if justice will be served. It isn’t all bad or sad there were times I chuckled or laughed at the things they said or how something happened. You get to see a little of the turning point for them and those around them as a mother fights to keep her family together and a daughter fights to find her place in a world she do not understand. It was a pleasure listening to this audio watching Bonnie Blithe and Dixie Jo grow, change and learn not only how to deal with their own issues but each other. I loved the spunk of Dixie Jo as she learned to deal not only with an abusive father but the hurt words of others and finding her place in the world she finds herself in. Bonnie Blithe stole my heart when she rubbed her tummy and said let this be a boy as well as her strong nature to hold her family together and deal with a husband most women in today’s world would have wanted to shoot and some would have. The ending just about bought a tear to my eyes as they saw a man walking to them. You will never believe who it is and the touching scene that unfolds. I truly enjoyed this from start to finish. It will be an audio I will listen to again it is a heartwarming story with so much sadness and pain but truly a blessing in the outcome.

My Review
4 stars
This is a real dark realistic story of drug and what they will do to you. Living in low incoming housing is no reason to let the world bring you down to their level.  Bleu has dreams she is going to get out and better herself. Living with drug user parents and seeing how it effects life she will not let it have that effect on her. Her life has been hard just when she is about to get out things turn worse leaving her shot. From there things just go down hill, she still won't give up her dream, with a little help from a friend that pushes her to move on she does just that.

Even though this is not my cup of tea I did feel this was well written with many twist and turns to keep you the reader interested. This book could have been pulled out of todays headlines the author gives you real characters that you feel compassion for. Bleu at a very young age I just wanted to grab pull her out of the book and take her home with me. There are some characters you just want to pick up and shake others will grab your heart.

It was a pleasure to see Bleu pick her self up rising above her past although I wouldn't have make some of the decision she did and was a little shocked that she was pulled into what she ran so far from. It was still an intriguing read with the author bring true issues right in your face with no pretty flowers or pretty words this not a book for the light of heart. If you have trouble with very raw issues such as rape and drug addiction that shows the true side than this is not the book for you. I do have to say this does end in a cliffhanger that will reach in an grab you. I have to say this was not my cup of tea but it was well written and believable. There will be readers out there that love this type of read. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean it will not be for you.
