Aberrations

Aberrations

Written by: Penelope Przekop
Narrated by: Rebecca Roberts
Length: 9 hrs and 5 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:11-08-13
Publisher: Penelope Przekop

You know that saying what you do know wouldn’t hurt you that apply to this story. I think Angel is better off not knowing the truth. There are many secrets that go deep and back many years. For years it has torn one man and a family apart leaving them broken, filled with sorrow and so much pain. You think you know what is going on but the author throws some major twist on this that will break your heart as you watch Angel go through the steps of finding out what really happened to her mother.

Ms. Roberts’s narration as always is outstanding. She has a way that really pulls the listener in giving you an audio that keeps you hanging on the edge. Her natural voice is just as pleasant as her character voices. Her males are strong, bold and at times broken men that you love as you feel their pain. Her female voices are very natural from her very young to the very old. She puts so much passion and emotion into them you get lost in the story. There are neither background noises nor any volume changes. There is no repeat of words just a clear, clean and crisp audio. Ms. Roberts’s puts so much emotion into her audio’s you never have trouble knowing who is talking or what they are feeling. When their heart breaks yours breaks right along with it. This is a very emotion and powerful story that Ms. Roberts’s has no trouble pulling off.  If any breaks were taken I could not tell. This is one of my favorite narrators when I see her name I know I am in for a treat.

I have mixed emotions over this plot it was good, interesting and pulls you in. There is no doubt your heart will break as does Angel’s and her family. I thought the writing style was great, I can’t put my finger on it but something was just a little off for me. I felt so much pain for Angel’s father he gave his all but it just didn’t seem good enough. He was always there her first but when it was time for him to find his own life things didn’t go so well. I have mixed emotions for his girlfriend I just couldn’t get a handle on her. She went from wicked step mother to someone you could relate to but she was just so wishy washy. Angel at times comes off as a spoiled brat. There were characters I really liked and some not so much. I never really understood why her mother’s family felt the way they did. All in all it was a good read I did enjoy it but it just didn’t come together well for me. I think it is well worth a 4 star the author does pull you in giving you many twists and turns you won’t see coming. Give it a try I thought it was worth my time.

Summary
Twenty-one-year-old narcoleptic Angel Duet knows her father harbors secrets. He loves and protects her, but his suspicious refusal to discuss her mother's death drives Angel to worship an image created from the little history she does have: her father's sketchy stories and her mother's treasured photography, studies of clouds that have hung in the their foyer for more than 20 years.
When her father's girlfriend moves in, the photographs come down, and Angel's search for truth becomes an obsession. As she struggles to uncover the past and gain control over the narcolepsy that often fogs her world, Angel descends into a dizzying realm of drugs, adultery, and confused desire that further obscures reality.
As Angel begins to expose a history she could never have imagined, she discovers her entire life has been anchored around lies. Accepting the truth, once found, is the key to understanding herself, her family, and her life. To truly awaken, Angel must realize that sometimes the gifts we receive are not what we want - and only in time do we see their worth.

Teach Your Heart

Teach Your Heart (Far North #3)
by Tracey Alvarez

This author has been on my bucket list to read for awhile when I was given the chance to read and review I jumped at it. I found it to be a very interesting story that I had trouble putting down from the characters to the plot it was just a great read.  The author knows how to pull her reader in giving you a great romance and a very believable story.

Owen is a workaholic he enjoys what he does which takes up most of his time. When his nieces and nephew come to stay with him, he in a little over his head, as with most children they are nice to have for a little while but what do you do when you can’t give them back? You hire a nanny of course!  I really enjoyed the children from their fears to their hopes. They are just wonderful fun characters. I loved watching Owen interact with them it was really emotional from his struggles in how to care for them and what to do with them to finally feeling comfortable around them getting as much pleasure from them as we the reader have.

When Gracie comes along and takes the job of nanny the attraction is very strong. They are really opposites but really balance each other out. With Gracie care free style she teaches Owen how to loosen up a little and not always put work first but to learn to relax and have fun. I enjoyed watching them dance around each other and the children do bring some interesting reading. For me this was a page turner giving the read some lovely twist, a great plot along with some very hot scene.  Along with the good times a little rain must fall you get to really get to know the characters as you watch them go there some sad times and seeing how they work together to turn it all around.

Not only does the author give you a great build of with the story she gives you wonderful supporting characters you will fall in love with. They do a wonderful job adding so much live to the story.  The author paints a picture of New Zealand that you can picture in your mind from the trees to the land and mountains that really has you wanting to go there to visit. I had no trouble at all picturing the beautiful country with the words of the author that really felt more like a painting in my mind.

Lastly I loved the buildup of these two who didn’t know how to handle their attraction and take care of the kids. You get a slow build up that really takes your breath way as these two grow in strength and love right before your eyes.  This is a standalone but the author does bring back characters from past books. She introduces them in a way that you do not feel you have lost anything but makes you want to go back and read the stories you have missed to get to know these wonderful characters better. For me this was a believable story with delightful characters you can relate to.  The ending will warm your heart leaving you with a smile on your face.  I hope you will pick up this book you might be like me and have found an author that is working her way into the top favorites very fast.

Summary
Some lessons are harder to learn than others…

Doctor O-for-Awesome Owen Bennett is all about fixing broken things. Then the arrival of his orphaned nieces and nephew for twelve weeks causes his workaholic life to plummet into chaos. Hiring the beautiful but unpredictable Gracie Cooper as a live-in nanny might just get him out of a tight spot…or it could seduce him into a reckless affair.

After four years flitting around Europe, waitress/dog-walker/au-pair Gracie Cooper has returned home to New Zealand. Her plans to hang out with her big brother change when Owen offers a perfect solution to her crippling university debt. In spite of her sexy-stick-in-the-mud boss, she’ll spend fun days playing in Bounty Bay’s sand and surf with three cute kids. At summer’s end she’ll follow the sun overseas again.

Gracie and Owen’s opposites-attract connection is so unexpected and powerful that their foundations are rocked. But some things aren’t easy to fix. Some past hurts can’t be run from forever. And the lessons they teach each other risk breaking their hearts.

Healing Montana Sky (Montana Sky #5)
by Debra Holland

My Review
I usually listen to Ms. Holland's books on audio I do not think I have read any by her books. I really enjoyed reading this as with her audios she pulls you in and takes you to another place in time in the past where she holds your interest and entertains you like few authors can. This is a real heart breaker two people losing the people they love who is their world have to come together to make a new family to safe the family they have. This is a very touching read of time gone by where things move fast to overcome what happens. You do not have time to grave you must do what is best for the here and now. Just as with the mail-order brides as times past you grow closer and love will come. You have to overcome a few issues of getting to know each other but time heals all pain.

Ms. Holland always gives you a wonderful read with stories that are believable as she spins a story with wonderful caring characters that you will come to love. Starting over is never easy but doing that with total strangers along with small children can be hard. Ms. Holland shows you their pain as they overcome issues and become a family. There is nothing more heart breaking than watching how the Indians were treated. This author shows you a side where the white man few they might be do care about them and try to help them. She gives you a story of two families becoming one as they put each other and the children first.

Erik learns that a wife is more than a person to take care of but one who work together to a common goal. That marriage is more than love or friendship but a partnership where love will grow. He learns sometimes giving is more as is taking what that person gives you to make a united front. He finds women are not weak but strong and can help carry the load. He has much to learn as this new wife shows him a side of a woman that he has never seen. He might have lost so much with losing his wife in childbirth but he has gained so much more.

Antonia learns how to give what her new husband needs. She is strong and a hard worker. She still must learn that who you are inside makes you beautiful. She must learn to trust and share along with saying what she feels. She is living a life in a dead woman place who in her eyes must have been prefect. As she show her new husband what working together is like she must also learn to trust him with her secretes knowing he will not judge her.

This was a well thought out story that the author put lots of time into. It is believable with wonderful characters who show the true meaning of family as they overcome issues and become one. I do have to say Antonia speech got to me I found myself correcting her than laughing at myself for doing it. She is trying to better herself and learn the correct ways, Antonia really is a wonderful character who gives so much as she takes on a whole new world than what she is use to. I loved seeing the little horses again I have come to love them dearly in each story that Ms. Holland writes.

This is one author is that is my go to. I know she will give me a wonderful entertaining read that will leave me with a smile on my face as she takes me down the path and twist her way to my heart. She always does her research her facts are right on the money. She spins a tale of truth, love and family. Her characters are well balanced with a wonderful mixture. This is a book about survival when times are tough you do what you have to. The pain of losing a love one and how to overcome it. You never forget your first love but find there is more love to give. It is a book about family, team work, honor, love, and dreams. It is what America was built on. If you are looking for a wonderfully well written story you have found it. I hope you love this author as much as I do. She gives you a wonderful story that will leave you with a smile on your face.

The Second Wife
by Kishan Paul

My Review
5 Stars +++++++
This is the second book I have read by this author and I have to say it is the best. After reading Blind Love I do not know what I expect but it sure wasn't this. The author gives you adventure with many twist and turns. Things are not always as they seem for sure. This is really an outstanding read of survival, getting even, taking back your life, facing your fears as you face your past which you have lost and learning to start over again when you do not know which way to turn. I can't even image going through what Alisha did. It would be bad enough being taken but to being taken to another country where everything is so strange you wouldn't know which end is up. To live day to day in a country you do not even know their language with no friends to talk to only a doctor and your husband who isn't your husband would be ungodly. Than to be taken and beaten over and over again for little or no reason is just mind blowing. What this author gives you is a well told story with a wonderful plot of one women and how she survived building a new life and a new family that gave her the reason to carry on.

Alisha is a sweet wonderful caring lady that gives so much of herself to everyone. She has a wonderful husband who adores her. A loving family that bring a smile to her face with their love. She has the best and everything any women could want until the day she walked outside and someone took her to a new country, killed people in front of her and became her worse nightmare. She prays for someone to come get her and take her home. She prays for the love of her life until the day she sees a picture and knows her life is over. She has nowhere to go, no one to love and no reason to live until the day she built her new family from those around her that are going through the same thing she is. Will this nightmare ever end? Will she ever find a way out and a place to call hers?

David remembers it like it was yesterday even through it has been two years since the love of his life came up missing. He has turned over every stone, she is nowhere but in his dreams. Those wonderful dreams at night when he is asleep she comes to him he reaches out and touches her only to wake and find she is gone. After two long painful years he has found someone who can make him smile again. If she could only make him forget.....until the day a man came to him and said your wife is alive and is the second wife of another man. He leaves no stone unturned as he finds away to get to her and bring her home but will it be too late?

What makes this such an outstanding read from me is the plot and the writing style of this author. I have said it before and I am saying it again this is one author you want to keep your eyes on. This is a very believable plot with some wonderful caring characters. Some you will love and others you will want to kill yourself. The author gives you all the fact without throwing them in your face. You know what happen and you know it is terrible but you do not read all the details. You can feel the pain of the victim as she is rape and beaten but it is told in away that your mind can handle it. There are so many victims here from one man that hates. No one said no to him if they do he kills them or takes them. No one has been able to stop him. Alisha believes she can and will die trying, she has nothing to lose and nothing to live for. He must die, his evil must be stopped. There is many more beside her that have paid his price. She vows no more will die because of him. David isn't walking away he will make this man pay for what he has not only done to him but his wife. He will not leave Pakistani without her. Now it becomes a fight to the death who will live and who will die.

This is one book I could not put down it held my interest like no other one has in awhile. There were times my mouth fell open and my hand went over it as I read. There were times I was close to tears as the author took me through the pages of hurt and pain. Many times I thought let me in a room with him and I will happily take him out. It has been a long time since a story has touched me so deep that I felt it all the way to my soul. I love the fact that it is told in a way that shouldn't trip any wires in your brain if you have been abused. It is a story you can relate to without having to read word for word what was done. I just love this book and plain to read it again. Most likely over and over again throughout the years. I think most who read this will not be able to walk away without being touched in some way. I know this review does not to justice to this book, there are no words to say just how wonderful this story is as you are taken to another place and another time of your worse nightmare.  I highly recommend you pick up The Second Wife and give it a read.
