Sophia (The Brides of San Francisco Book 4)
by Cynthia Woolf
My Review
What is there not to love about this new book from the
talented Ms. Woolf? You have excitement, a little drama, a little suspense all
wrapped up in a delightful mail order bride story that touches your heart.
Sophia
is a surprise being raised with 7 brothers and sisters and is most likely the
less favorite of her parent’s children that she turned out so sweet and caring.
Her twin younger sister sure didn’t. This is a story of the heartbreak of
everything Sophia has ever had or wanted her sister took away. Being a mail
order bride has finally given Sophia her heart’s desire or has it? You just
never know with a family like hers what this group might be up to. I really
like Sophia as a character she is kind, an easy push over, and always walks
away giving in to her sister. She is so graceful and giving with a sister like hers
it really is hard to believe she can be so forgiving. On marrying Robert Sophia finds she has something
to fight for that she will not give up easy. It was a pleasure seeing her grow
and blossom before your eyes learning to not back down. There is some touch and
go scenes that you have to wonder just what she will do. You might be surprised
just what this lady can do when she is pushed.
Robert is a normal man who just wants a
warm bed with a woman in it and someone to take care of his kids. He really
doesn’t care much for anything else. At the beginning of their marriage it does
seem he does and has a hard time getting over it. As times goes on he enjoys
his wife’s company but there is no love, there will never be any love. This is
one man who will be in for a few surprises as Sophia takes over his home, life
and world. It is really easy to like Robert even if you do not care for how he
is or is regards on how things should be with one set of rules for him and another
for you. He does love his children and will not let anyone hurt his wife. It is
a delight to watch him at work cutting down those who think they are better
than others.
The plot is full of sable rivalry at
its finest, plots, emotional distress, and doubts. They say sticks and stone
may break your bones but words will never hurt me has never had to deal with
Sophia sister. Words cut like a knife, belittle you and cause so much pain.
They can weaken your mind making you think you are not good enough. I really
felt for Sophia and could relate to her. You really do not need to be a size
two to find a man who truly loves you as Sophia will find some men love women
with some curves to her. I really loved
the plot and how it was written pulling you in to a story as the author makes
you feel the hurt and pain of angst, sibling rivalry, deceit, threats,
emotional sabotage, and doubts. This was well written with wonderful characters
and a wonderful addition to this series.

Summary
Working long hours in a New York City bakery is not at all
what Sophia Hayes had planned for her life. When her fiancé breaks their
engagement her to marry her thinner, blonder, more beautiful sister, Sophia
knows it is time to do something drastic, something completely unexpected. All
she's ever wanted is to have a husband and family of her own. Agreeing to be a
mail-order bride seems the perfect answer.
Robert Langley has been a sailor his entire life. As Captain of the Sapphire of India, his last cargo made him a very wealthy man, but his time at sea cost him much. His wife was killed in an accident while running away with another man leaving him a widower with four young children who barely recognize their own father. A mail-order bride seems to be the ideal solution. He simply needs a willing woman to warm his bed and a compassionate woman to raise his children. Love is not an option.
Sophia's sister is not content to leave well enough alone. When her husband dies unexpectedly, she makes her way to San Francisco to do what she has always done...take what she wants. And the moment she sets eyes on her sister's new family, what she wants is Robert Langley.
Sophia has always believed her stunning, talented sister deserved the best in life. But this time Sophia is in love, and she's not going to surrender without a fight.
