MEDICINE WOMAN: WESTERN PRAIRIE BRIDES SERIES

MEDICINE WOMAN: WESTERN PRAIRIE BRIDES SERIES, sweet clean western historical romance
by Bobby Hutchinson

My Review
This was a very good read which I found very entertaining the author put a lot of thought into her writing of this giving vivid detail of a time in history when things were hard for those that were different.  People being prejudice has and sadly will always be in our world for Mary it was bitter sweet being a doctor was her dream she might even had been the first of her kind.. She worked hard to make her dream come true only to have people turn against her demanding a male doctor. She had not only patients against but doctors, nurses and the hospital as well. At the same time she met David he is dealing with his own demons trying to live in a white man’s world isn’t easy when you are what they call a half breed. Being taken to England by his father when he was a very young boy, striped from his home land, his mother and his people was just too much for a little boy to understand. He lived his life as his father wanted never forgetting where he came from and knowing he would always go back to his people. This is really a story inside a story of two people who had a dream, their families, along with their love as they fight the prejudice against them and their kind.

Mary really is a wonderful loving character who really just wants to help others by healing them. She is sweet, kind, loving, and helpful. I really think she would love to find a man to love but with her job there just isn’t room for that. Never would she find a man who would be understanding to give her the time she needs to be a doctor. Men wanted women home, cooking, cleaning and taking care of their many children. She has many trials she most overcome as she faces many issues before she will truly be the person she needs and wants to be. David is another bump in the many roads she must travel. Oh he is handsome, kind and lord knows she would love to belong to him but he seems to have other thoughts and just may break her heart.

David is a find man any women would be proud to have that is unless you lived in 1908 than you might find he isn’t good enough for you. What I saw was a man in a lot of pain from his past trying to make a future for him and his people. He never understood his father or his religion and really wanting nothing to do with any of it. He finds his self in a world torn in half not belonging to either and neither of those worlds wanting him. He meets Mary who he is drawn to but knowing he could never ask her to live with his people giving up all she knows and wants.

My heart really went out to both of these along with their families. There are some trying times ahead not only for these two but for their families as well. Love found, love lost, love found only to be lost again.

For me this story pulled me in lost me pulled me in again. There are so very interesting reading with a wonderful plot and a few twists. If you are looking for a sweet, heartbreaking, loving wonderful romance you have found it. I do have a few issues with the time frame of a few things the author wrote. I am not sure some of the things happen in a time that she wrote but I feel they happen later on in history. It really isn’t a big issue but I think more research might have been needed to make this a truly historical romance. One should remember this is a fiction so really anything can be said or done since it is make believe. There was a time or two when I thought things could have been left out and it would have made it a smoother read. What I did find was a delightful plot with so much pain, anger, and sorrow, learning to forgive, starting over, and learning to go for your dreams no matter what. I love the characters and supporting characters they brought so much to the story.  I felt the author took on some touchy issues with class, style and turned it into a touching, loving wonderful read delivering it in a smooth and touching way. This was really a wonderful entertaining read that I feel most would truly enjoy.  If you are looking for a sweet clean read with a HEA you have found it.
