Shatter Me Whole

Shatter Me Whole (Shattered Lives #3)
by Barb Shuler

This story is a little closer to home for many of us who have had controlling parents. Where it is they think they know best or just can’t cut the apron strings you always know who is in power and you are always waiting for the time to break free from the hold they have on you. Then there are those who abuse taking away yourself respect, cutting  you into with words and action, all of this is bad and horrible but nothing can be worse than sexual abuse with the abuser having control over your mind and body for a young teen this is devastating. The is a story of one girl who has been used in the worse way and her fighting to break out and find freedom anyway she can. This is a story that brought tears to my eyes. I haven’t felt this much anger for one man, the author knows how to draw her readers in, I really wanted to do bodily harm to her stepfather. What an evil monster that doesn’t deserve to live.

For me out of all the three books this one touched me the most, it hit a little close to home. It is filled with suspense, it is very disturbing and most likely the most to the truth then the other books. The anguish and pain she went through just tore my heart apart.  There are many twists and turns that hold your attention as well as terrifies you.  Jackson’s unconditional brings another tear to your eyes, he is truly a hero that any woman would be proud to call her own. It is amazing how someone can go through as much as Kristol and still remain so strong, not willing to give up, she such a  spit fire even after all she has gone through. It truly was an amazing read that pulled me in, I couldn’t put it down. It is very much and emotional,  intense, complex story of one girl and what she is willing to do to get her freedom and her children back and the man who will do anything to make that happen.

There were times I cringe, times I cried and times I wanted to do bodily harm as well at times when I did smile. It is a very touching story that pulled me in. The author knows how to pull  on your heartstrings making you want to pull the characters out as well as show one man how it feels to be abused. I had no trouble picturing the scenes as they unfold nor did I have any trouble picturing what I would love to do to the stepfather. I have to say my mind went to a place I never would have thought it would leaving me with a smile on my face as I saw him go through some very hard times. It really is a compelling read that I found myself way to invested in. Each of this authors stories is better than the last one. I can hardly wait to see what she comes up with next. I really would hate to be in this authors mind it must be one wild place as she gives us one wild ride after another where evil takes the lead. For a little while you are left wondering if there ever will be a HEA.

Summary

Family is supposed to be there to help you when you’re in need. Love you when you are feeling down. To show support. Yours might… mine shatters me.

My stepfather thinks he has a right to take our freedom, and our power from us. They all do.

I’m the rebel. I grew up knowing this was wrong. I will not live my life in fear any more. The pain has to stop. He has to be stopped. I am but one girl on a mission to get out of this place and be free.

Only problem is… I may not be strong enough to defeat him. When I come across something that could possibly end his reign, I'll use it. I would pay to see his world come crashing down around him....

Whether I survive it or not.

Somewhere I Belong

Somewhere I Belong (Shattered Lives #2)
by Barb Shuler

Another attention getting that is just as disturbing as the first book in this series the story is filled with tragedy, obsession, drama, evil, lose, abuse, love and survival. The author has no trouble grabbing and keeping your attention in a page turner as she lays out the plot that keeps you in the edge of your seat. The grass isn’t greener on the other side, sometimes when tasting that grass it gets you into a world of trouble and deals a hand you can’t win no matter how much you try. Then sometimes you get a chance to break out and you see a light at the end of the tunnel if only you can make it that far. As with the first book in this series the author throws in twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat holding your breath waiting for the next shoe to drop. Just when you think things will turn out okay she throws you in a tail spin that makes your heart beat fast wanting to stick your hand inside the book and pull the character right through the pages to safety.

Anna wants some excitement in her life, living in a small town is nice and all that but there just isn’t any nightlight, no excitement and no thrills. She wants to live on the edge, have an adventure, get out and see the world. She has seen some great things leaving behind some wonderful memories as she travels from state to state that is until she hit Vegas here she will learn just how great her life was and what she thought she wanted she really does not. Here is where her nightmare beings leaving her on the run from an evil boyfriend, his abuse and all that she sees that she wishes she could unseen. She runs back to the place she has always felt safe to the arms of the man she left behind. Only the ex isn’t giving up that easy he is on the hunt to find her, he isn’t through with her by a long shot.

What follows is a story filled with suspense and danger as one man hunts her down why the other tries his best to keep her safe. It is full of surprises, with some great twists you won’t see coming. Sometimes we must spread our wings to find where we need to be is where we just left. When danger strikes we always look for a safe haven that is usually our home with the ones we love. Anna just hopes she can make it there in one piece and alive. Trevor hopes they all make it out alive when one evil man comes knocking it is life and death. I thought the plot was great, it keeps your interest and moves pretty fast. This is one author that knows how to give you chills and excitement that keeps your blood pumping. A very emotional read that really keeps you on the edge. I can’t wait to see what the next book holds in store for me.

Summary

I was a woman on a mission. I wanted to be.... Somewhere I belonged.

My life as a small town gal kept me cautious, but I wanted to go travel the world, be free and not stuck in a bubble. I traveled through the states and kept moving until I got to Vegas. Flashing lights, casinos and the man in Armani who made traffic stop with his sparkling smile… A smile I quickly learned belonged to the devil.

Not anyone else’s devil – he was my devil.

Then, my world came to a crashing halt one night – the night my life went from dangerous to ready to flatline.

On the ride of my life, I went back to the past I’d abandoned years before. Back to the past that has never been the past. It could have been the present but I was too stubborn to see it.

I'm running back to the arms of safety.

To the arms I should have never left.

My Own Nightmare

My Own Nightmare (Shattered Lives #1)
by Barb Shuler

There is no doubt this grabs your attention from the start with this disturbing story about obsession, tragedy, drama, evil, lose, love and survival. The author knows how to spin a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat with many twists and turns. I had a few drop down mouth moments as well as a few times I close my eyes to let it all sink in. It isn’t a story you want to read late at night home alone.

Dani has a good life just starting her career, with wonderful friends, the love of her life. Life looks good the future even better that is until evil walks in her life with one who is obsessed, always watching, never too far away, following, waiting watching and making plans. On graduation night that all changes when she is kidnapped taken from all she has known and loved. Her strength will be tested as well as her basic skills to stay alive, it is touch and go with an outcome that leave you holding your breath as the author takes you through the paces of evil within one person, so much evil it will make your skin crawl as your mouth drops.

For a debut story this was great, it has suspense, danger with one very sick person that will surprise you when you see the outcome. My heart really went out to Dani, I doubt you could read this and not have it touching you in some way. The plot and story line is wonderful, has some great characters. As the plot twists it becomes a very emotional read that had me looking over my shoulder. You are left guess just where the author is going with it as the end draws near you close your eyes and pray for a good ending. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series.

Summary

One night a life changed. My life.

I used to write about chaos – about lives turning on a dime. Never once did I think it would ever happen to me. I went from a blossoming career to a prisoner in the span of a single evening. A living nightmare I was determined to escape.

The price of evil was high, but I wasn’t backing down. I knew in my heart the men in my life would be looking. I just had to survive. One day at a time. Minutes turned to hours. Hours turned into days. Then, it was time to make a choice.

Live or Die?

I chose to live.

Hell hath no fury and I had no more time...
