Sleeper Protocol

Sleeper Protocol

Written by: Kevin Ikenberry
Narrated by: Nathan Dunford
Length: 11 hrs and 23 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:11-02-16
Publisher: Red Adept Publishing, LLC

Sleeper Protocol is by far one of the best narrations I have ever listened to. The plot is outstanding and very realistic. I can see this coming true and it would make a wonderful movie. I was hooked from the first page until the last. The author gives you a plot based on the future when there are no need for soldiers, the wars are over or so they believe. The land changed forever, nothing is as you remember it with so many shocking changes that leave you wondering what the heck happened. The author gives very vivid details you can picture each scene. There really isn’t much filler at all just thrills, adventure and action at the best. One group decides to play with nature changing the way a human thinks, feels and wants in doing so they have taken one man waking him up not knowing who or what he is. There is another group that you aren’t sure just what they plan. You know how it is when you plan things it never goes as you want. You are in for a wild ride and loving it all the way.

They send him on a walk about without answering a lot of questions. He has a prototype in his brain that will help him as he needs. He needs to work through stages to find who he is and decide what he will do. He is lost in more ways than one and must work through not only his future but his past. There is danger all around with people who want him dead and one who wants him to succeed at any cost. The question is will he and what will it cost him?

I was blown away by Mr. Dunford’s narration from the first page he pulled me in leaving me hanging on his every word. I do not know how he did the sounds effect but they sounds natural and robotic just as one would picture it to be. He has a wonderful strong voice that you get lost in, there were no repeats of words or any place where the volume was higher or lower. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. His character voices are just wonderful, his female voices were great as was his males. You always know what each character is feeling with powerful emotion he deliveries throughout the audio. I am just blown away with how realistic it sounded. I had no trouble picturing the story and scenes as they unfold holding me captive from start to finish. There are no background noises just a clean, crisp, clear outstanding audio that I could not put down. The sound effects are out of this world pulling the reader in from every corner giving you a story you can’t put down. Walmart just loves me when I get so into the listen I keep shopping so I can listen longer. This is one narrator that knows how to perform keeping you invested and very entertained.  I am so looking forward to listening to more of his work.

The author put a lot of thought into writing this story making it very believable. The first thing that came to mind is wow that is just amazing. The next thing was this is how I see the future he nailed it right on the money. There is romance and passion along with excitement, danger, lots of questions and a wonderful ending. Your heart really goes out to Kieran leaves you wondering how someone could do this to him and then you fall in love with him as he works through it all to find out who he was and is. When he finds romance you wonder just how this can turn out good. Then there is the prototype that throws a spin in the plot. Just when you think you have a handle the author changes direction leaving you with your mouth hung open at times. There are twists and turns that surprises you and pulls you in. Berkeley maybe a scientist first but she is a woman with feeling and falls for Kieran. I was excited for them both but all is not good with people hunting them down and many more issues they will have to deal with. The really made a great couple. She can do so much for him but she could be the death of him.

The ending is wonderful and so unexpected. There are a few places you will be sad at the unknown and your heart will break. There were places I just closed my eyes and hung my head. I was so into this that the characters became real to me. I held my breath a time or two and even did a little yelling. This is well written with the author leaving it setup for book 2. I so want it now and cannot wait for it to come out. 5 Star plus from start to finish WOW just WOW loved it. I really can’t say anymore or you will not be surprised when things happen. You will be very entertained and glad you picked this up for a listen. I want to say thank you to both the author and narrator for really giving me a wonderful wild ride that keep me hook and entertained for hours.

Venus in Red
by Therin Knite

 My Review
This is a very short read but well worth the time. Ms. Knite fills this with a wonderful action pack read that moves very fast. She puts all her time into giving you a thrilling read minus a lot of details you do not need. This is an action-packed sci-fi that feels like a novel, the ending does leave me with a question as to who this women is. What a surprised ending as one woman fights the battle to bring one evil man down who wants to take over the world and puts him in his place. The technology will blow you mind leaving you to hope there never is a day that this might come true. This author gives you thrills on each page as she takes you into the future leaving no doubt this is a fight against good and evil.

I really enjoy this story the characters feel real as she gives you a very believable read. I have to say the woman who takes on this man is my hero. She has moves you would never dream of. This is very well written I didn't want the story to end. The character development is outstanding as she writes to keep it interesting but the ending is will blow your mind. The author never leaves you guessing as to what is going on. You are pulled in and turn the pages to find out who wins this battle against good and evil. I really think anyone who likes  sci-fi will really enjoy this read.

 My Review
All over a 5 story a 4
The author put some interesting twist in this read with some real sorrow. I kept saying no please no but she didn't it anyway. I really enjoyed book 2 but not as much as I did book 1 mostly due to Rachel and how she deals with issues. When Rachel's two lives meet head on she struggles to keep everyone safe. With the outcome of this book there is only one thing left to do and that will be the start of the next book in this series. The author brings back some wonderful characters as she touches base with the past book. As the War with the Others builds it is harder to keep her secret safe. When this war finally hits some will die and others will be left behind to pick up the pieces. I have to wonder what they outcome will be for so many who have lost so much.

Rachel is a strong bullhead women who will not listen to reason. I really liked her in the first book but not so much in this one. She doesn't really think just runs head on into trouble thinking she is helping when she is not. Her actions made her lose someone very important to her. Rachel really is a very sweet and wonderful lady who just needs to think before she does anything. With what she has planned to do in the next book I sure hope she really thinks before she jumps if she doesn't she could get in the worse trouble ever or even end of dead.

Leonardo is still a wonderful character keeping everyone safe but in this installment things go a little haywire as he has to deal with issues he has no control over. He goes missing and when he is found he just isn't the same. Can love and friendship save him or will his life be changed forever.

Shana Pennington-Baird as the narrator is wonderful she brings so much life to each character. It is easy to tell her males from her females as she creates and gives life to all that is around them. Her voices has even tones with just the right about of emotion for each that you know what they are feeling and where their thoughts are. There is no background noise and no breaks that you can tell. Here tones are even as if she read the book all at one setting. I have listened to a few from this author and have enjoyed every book she has narrated.

The author gives you a wonderful story of people from different lifestyles who come together to make a family as they fight the "others" it is a toss up to who the winner will be. No matter who wins so much will be lost. The author gives out more details as she builds up the series but is still holding her cards close to her chest. She has answered a few questions only leaving you with more unanswered. This is sure a puzzle that the pieces do not fit. I have my guesses but I could be way off base. I can't wait to see how Rachel plays in all of this, There is so much mystery over why her mother will not talk about her parents and what about Rachel's birth? Something is way off there and I want some answers as does Rachel.

I really enjoy these characters as the serve and protect each other. They have built a wonderful home as they bring all the strange into it they have built a family. I cannot wait to see where the author takes this book with the next installment we will be going into the labs. I can't not wait to see what they are like and what all is in there.  I guess you could read this as a standalone but I fear you would be lost even with the author giving some background from the first book. I am really hooked on this series. If you are looking for a book that is different and not like others of this nature give this series a try.

When Rachel's home is ripped apart and a friend attacked, it's clear there is no safe haven. She is no longer running from her past, but trying to survive to make it to her future.

My Review
I thought this book was very interesting with a different twist. The author gives you some really heartbreaking scenes, betrayal no doubt of the worse kind along with starting over. It is never easy to start over when your love one has been killed. For it to happen why in the military to a almost new bride goes beyond the call of duty. I have always said the spouse serve our country just as the ones at war. This book shows that over again, what do you do when it feels like everyone is against you, his family blames you for his death, your military friends are no longer your friends. You pack up and go where? Home? There isn’t anything waiting there for you, with nowhere to go or run to lick her wounds Rachel decides to go to the one place she has never been. The grandmother she has never met left her a big estate. Everything, money, a big house and a note that said I am sorry. The mystery begins as Rachel starts over rebuilding her life. What she finds is life might not be as safe as she goes into the forest, she feel something there she is afraid, then it attacks, something or someone comes along, she passes out and wakes to a voice that said do not be afraid I will not hurt you, you are safe. She sees nothing but feels comfort, the voice keeps her there until morning than tells her how to get home and never come back. She doesn’t know what to feel or think. There is a man who is watching her making her feel uneasy, he comforts her which even unsettles her more. What is he talking about, what could this all mean….Danger is near, nearer than she thinks….There are to many secretes that she must uncover to find the true meaning and just what did her grandmothers note mean? She finds not everyone is happy she is there, to many things go wrong, to many people are on the hunt…but for what?

The narrator Shana Pennington-Baird I thought did a great job of narrating. Her different voices added a lot to the audio. It was easy to tell which was male and female and what emotions she was trying to betray. The only problem I saw in this audio was at the beginning of some chapters her voice was louder than the one she just finished. I am guessing this is when she took a break and came back to start recording again. I cannot say it took away from the audio it was more of wow that is different but it isn’t long before you get right back into this story. It was a story I did have trouble setting down and really wanted to continue it. There was no background noise at all just nice smooth listening with just the voice getting louder at the beginning of some chapters.  Would I listen to more by this narrator you can bet the bank I would. She really does have a smooth voice that pulls you in and holds you there, at times with your heart in your throat.

The author gives a story with many twists and turns that will keep you interested as she tells you a heartbreaking story of love lost and starting over. She takes you on a journey through the forest of the unnatural and Rachel pieces together her family, their lies, betrayal which will cause her lots of pain. It is heartbreaking to see these half human half animals and all they have had to deal with. Life is dangerous as a bounty hunter is following her wanting information she doesn’t have.  He will get his information at all cost whatever it takes.

You get to meet some wonderful characters that have their own painful story to tell. They come together to unite as a family keeping all those like them safe. Each are special in their own way but Leonardo stands out as he keeps Rachel safe through the many different issues that happen.  As a reader it is hard for your heart not to go out to these characters when you learn their story. Rachel at times I just wish I could have pulled her out of the book to safety and take her sorrow away. The author gives you characters you do not know if you can trust one minute and the next they are dearing and you just love them. Do not believe everything you see for it might not be. As I listened along thoughts started stirring and I thought this it is how it is. To find out I was correct I was like YES but I never thought it was going to be that way. I would have to say the ending is painful and heartbreaking but at the same time sweet and happy. You are torn between how you think it will go and how you want it to end. This is a series and I am so looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for me. This story can go many different ways and with this authors mind you just never know. If you haven’t read anything by RM Alexander this would be a great one to start with. The audio is outstanding as the book is.
