Lawless Love (Lawmen and Outlaws)

Lawless Love (Lawmen and Outlaws)
by Andrea Downing

My Review
For a short, sweet and to the point story this was great it starts out fast and keeps going throughout the read.  Ms. Downing gives us very strong characters with a little sass to give you tons of laughs. The story starts off with Marshal Dylan coming across a lady bathing in a river. He steps out trying to tell her there are snakes in there. She is nude and shocked that she isn’t alone. Words are exchanged leaving her wondering how she would get out and away from the man. She puts her mind to work and soon he finds things might have changed hands as she pulls a fast one leaving him standing in a mess of trouble.

Ms. Downing stays with the time period right down to the language giving you a very entertaining read. The tables are turned and turned again so fast you almost have whiplash from the back and forwards these two do. For Dylan everything is either black or white there are no gray areas in his life. Lacey is something and she is about to teach this high handed man there might be a few gray mixed in with those dole colors. Lacey is hiding something and he is just the man to find out what that is. One man is dead and the killer is still out there. Between hunting down the killer and Lacey he is about to go nuts.

I like that Dylan is a gentleman but like most of us he isn’t prefect. I not sure I know one man who wouldn’t look at a nude women who they came across at least for a few minutes. There is right and wrong but every one of us has turned the wrong way for some reason or another which goes back to the beginning of time with an apple.  What it really boils down to is what you would be willing to do for those you love.  All of the above makes this a very believable story since we are not prefect we are just like the characters in this story (I am not saying we would make the choice they did but some would) which goes right along with us living in an imperfect world making it a believable read with wonderful down to earth characters you can relate to.

There is one touchy issue that the author brings to you in a very supporting classy way. The who, what and why will almost bring tears to your eyes. I loved the baiting and the tug of war between these two. The humor is wonderful as one shows a little sass and the other tries to out do it. It is a short read with the author giving you everything you need not leaving anything out. I would have liked to have had a little more at the ending. All in all this was a wonderful read that I totally enjoyed. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading this author before. I am very much looking forward to picking up some more of her stories. I thing most will enjoy this fast pace, with a little mystery.
Right or wrong, black or white, when push comes to shove which choice would you make.

Black Opal

Black Opal (Peri Jean Mace #2)
by Catie Rhodes

My Reivew
This is a series that just gets better and better with twist and turn full of mystery thickens as Peri is on the hunt for her cheating boyfriend. When she finds him he will pay that is until she gets to where she is going and her whole world is turned upside down. I feel you could read this as a standalone but to get the full impact you will want to read the first one. This is a pretty fast pace with a wonderful plot of who done it as ghost come to life right before your eyes trying to tell you a story but not knowing how. Leaving Peri guessing to what happen and the why, there is danger all around the killer might still be alive and near. It could be anyone but all fingers are pointing to the boyfriend or even the serial killer who is in prison.

I really felt sorry for Dean as Peri falls flat on her face coming face to face with the cheating man when she finds out who his date was. It seems Peri isn’t the only one hiding things there are many secrets that will be uncovered as the author keeps you laughing at the mess they get in. For the ghost your heart will break that one beautiful life was taken away long before her time. One family needs answer to close the door on their lost love one and the killer who took her.

I loved the plot as the story twists its way around you mind you are on the hunt trying to help Peri find the victim and killer. Before you know it hours have past and you close the book wishing it would go on. There are times I held my breath other where I cheered and still some where my mouth fell open and still more where I laughed myself silly. I can’t wait for the next one in this series this is one author that has me spellbound. I love Ms. Rhodes unique writing style she make you feel like you are right there with Peri , you are almost ready to jump out of your skin as the ghost take over pulling her one way and then another. This is one series you will want to read that pulls on your heart string giving you a story you can relate to that is very believable.

Summary
“I knowed you'd be coming.” The voice came from next to my arm, male but high and reedy. “You here to make things right, ain't you?”

Not according to Peri Jean Mace. She might communicate with ghosts, but right now she’s on a mission to catch her two-timing boyfriend with his pants down.

Instead, she's drawn into a decades-old murder mystery, in a house full of strangers. To top it off, her boyfriend's mother gifts Peri Jean with a spectacular gemstone that enhances Peri Jean's own supernatural abilities.

What could go wrong?

Just One Kiss (Kissed by the Bay #3)

My Review

There is nothing like a romance that makes you smiles giving you an all over good feeling. Ms. Halter knows how to do that and more as she spins a compelling story that is clean, fun, heartbreaking, loving with plots that have a twist. I have read this whole series and couldn’t wait for Charlie’s story Luke and her make a wonderful unbeatable team. Before the HEA there are many roads to go down with many rocks to stumble down. If we could only see the future to make wiser choice but than we would miss some wonderful times along the way that give our lives meaning as Charlie and Luke they must choose not all their choices are the right ones. Many people stand in their way which gives them a false start. Will they be able to overcome every rock in their way or will this be good-bye for them?

This was a book I could not put down with so many twists and turns that you are bouncing all over the place. First you feel for one and than the other last you heart breaks for both and a few other characters. I even felt sorry for Rex which I really do not think he deserves. This is one author who knows how to twist your heart pulling you one way than the other giving you a wonderful clean read.

One lady gives up her dreams to make the man she love dreams come true thinking somewhere along the way her time will come only to find her world fallen apart and she loses almost everything. She gets a second chance at not only love but the career she dearly wants, only to have it pulled out from under her feet again. One man will do anything to keep her even if that mean tearing her apart leaving her with nothing, why another will give her the world as he does the one thing he promised never to hurt her. You have a well balanced drama with a wonderful plot that pulls you in cheering for one and than the other as you watch them tear each other apart. This would make a wonderful soap opera as passion is put to play twisting you in knots leaving you waiting for the next shoe to drop.

This was a very cute romance that had me holding my breath and even laughing out loud at the mess they make of their lives. This is one series you do not want to miss as you are taken through their rise and fall of fame.

My Review
This was a very different kind of read with a very scary future to look forward to that I hope never comes to pass. It’s a short to the point story with good characters that most can relate to. With the future turning more and more to computers makes this a believable story. Most have lost their jobs with more doing so each and every day. The human try to find away to fight back before they are killed or starve to death.

Mr. Foster does a great job on narration even the robots narration was very good. You always know who is talking. His narration is a little flat but for this story I feel it needs to be to make it more believable. His women voice are just as good as his males. He has a very pleasant voice that is easy to listen to. There were no background noises or any breaks take that I could tell. No places where the volume was higher or lower. His character voices were very pleasant. He tells the story so well you can almost picture things as they happen. He really gives life to this audio that I feel might be a little flat if reading it. I look forward to listening to more of his work.

There isn’t a lot that can be told of this story without giving it away. The author does put a few twists in that you won’t see coming. It is well written for a short story never leaving things out. He does skip ahead a few years but you know just what happen before with no guessing. I enjoyed and liked the characters each having their own part to the falling of the human and robots. I think most will enjoy this.

The irony is not lost on him.
Corporations are manufacturing countless automatons to replace human workers, and not just in menial jobs.

He makes uneasy allies where he least expects, and finds enemies that were waiting for him all along.
Peter must determine how, or if, he will deal with the madness around him. Merely crunching numbers won’t be enough.
A near-future dystopian world, reminiscent of Asimov, Heinlein and the golden age of science fiction.

My Review

What truly makes this a 5 star for me was the narration! When having more than one narrator this is how it should be done. I have not read this book but I can tell you now it would not be the same, there is no way the book could be better than the audio. This started out as a good story but when the dual narration kicks in with each doing their own genre I was wowed away. When the story starts out it is a little confusing you know what is happening and it is bad but you do not know the why of it until much later. It is an audio you won’t be able to put down giving you a very high entertainment that will leave you holding your breath. This starts off with a house burning, a women escaping and on the run it takes you through her paces as she runs from town to town until she stops and the story really takes off.

Mav is something else from the start you just have to step back and so wooooooooo chill man. He has his own story to tell as he lives a battle of his past let made him what he is today. One women tore his world apart another comes into it, she won’t get the chance to do what was done before her. Can one woman give him back his life and hope of a future or will she tear him down?

Ember is way too innocent to be on the run trusting when she should not. Running out of money and her ex hot on her trail she has few options. One cop and one stranger change her life with no turning back she has made her choices for good, bad or even death they have been made. One man she is scared to death of she left behind another steps before her way to handsome for his own good but lord he is even scarier than the one she left behind or is he?

Mav and Ember are very strong characters neither taking much off the other. She needs to stay he wants her gone who will win in this tug of war? Mav comes across as a total jerk where Ember is sweet. They are very much attracted to each other but neither wants the other to know. This was a wonderful MC story that has a touch of everything in it. You have danger, over the top sex, homeless people, and a crazy nut case ex, just everything that makes this an outstanding story.

Honey Scarlett, Leeroy Will narration was out of this world each hitting tones right on the money. You know just who is talking and what they are feeling. For me they made this audio what it is any other narrators would just not do it justice. Honey takes on the life of all the female roles with Lerroy taking on the male. Their many different voices were outstanding never leaving you guessing who was talking and just how they felt. There are no background noises or any places where the volume are higher or lower or tones off. They give you a listen you won’t be able to put down. If they took a break you cannot tell it is just one smooth listen that hooks you from start to finish. I found things to do so I wouldn’t have to turn it off. They made you feel the emotions at times you even wanted to cry and lord did they make you laugh. Just outstanding narration at the finest. I can’t wait to listen to more from this duo.

The author gives a well put together story which is long. With most all story the filler is just too much. Here the author fills it will many different issues and plots as she twist and turn her way through giving you a wonderful listen with lots of danger. There are stories inside of stories with many wonderful characters I can’t wait to read more about. The ending is wow as danger comes to their door. I loved the many different characters as each of them took a piece of my heart. Yep there were bad bikers but had a heart of gold for those they love. Just when you think you have a handle on the story the author changes it blowing your mind. There is always something exciting going on with lots of drama to follow. I found this to be a believable story that really took my breath away. The author gives you a wonderful plot with exciting wonderful characters. This was so outstanding I can hardly wait for the next one to come out.
