The Gangster's Kiss (Love is a Dangerous Thing Book 1)
by Ginger Ring

4.5 stars
My Review

This is the first time I have read anything by this author it will not be the last. For me the book started a little slow it didn't take long before the author pulled me in as the author takes you on the twist and turns of who was in the gang and who was on what side. She gives a wonderful plot of a family who loves each other but has many secrets that each do not know about. Are these secrets worth killing you bet.

Grace is a wonderful character who is trying to find her way still in a world where women do not have much to call their own depending on the men in their lives. She takes off getting herself into a mess, she runs home only to find the father she loves dies, her brother hires a man to take care of her to keep her from harm. She can feel eyes watching her do they know what she saw and will they come to kill her? Before it is said and done she will find out more than she wants and will lose even more. Grace brings a lot to the story trying to find a way out and live a happy life. She is childlike in many ways but that is due to her family protecting her. It was nice to see her grow up and take control getting the job done when need be.

John is just a lost soul trying to find his sister and seem to get his self in the middle of everything. One man said I will help you and gets him running moonshine, which puts him at the death of Graces father. Does he go on or does he help? Mom always said kindness will get you in trouble. This time it got him guarding the sheriffs sister who is in a mess of trouble which will only lead to more trouble. He really needs to stop doing the right thing and worry about finding his sister. How much does the sister know and is she in on the gang related issues or is she as innocent as she seems. He sure is having a hard time keeping his hands to his self....only time will tell which way this all will fall...will they get out a live or will they all end up dead?

The author gives a delightful at times funny with a wonderful plot that will keep you guessing until the end. She gives you a touching romance with wonderful characters even those you aren't suppose to like you hold in top regard, that is all but one. She gives a nice build up to the romance as she brings the character in for action not only in the bedroom but trying to keep one step ahead of those out to kill them. Nothing is as it seems you must look deeper if you want to work out the who and why. The characters are ones you can relate to some are very town to earth others think highly of themselves. She gives you some very heated love scenes that will leave you fanning yourself as she takes you one a wonderful journey of the  Roaring 20`s. The ending is sad but happy as she turns the page to lead into the next book. This is not cliffhanger the next book will lead into finding his sister, it sounds like a wonderful read as this one is. I am so looking forward to reading it. I think this book has a little of something for everyone. If you are into gangsters you sure do not want to miss this one. If not you might want to think about giving this a read you might find you will enjoy it.

My Review

I have really enjoyed this series Ms. Bybee is a very talented author who knows how to spin a tale as she keeps you entertained. I do have to say this isn't one of my favorites so far in this series. The author does hit on some very serious issues of teen abuse and run away. I loved the way Karen helps the young teens even at her own cost. Zach was a great character I really did like him. I honestly thought when Karen and Michael would work it out and stay married when I read the first part in the story before. The author never did tell if Michael really had a secret it was hinted at. The story is built mostly around Karen and Zach meeting falling for each other and Karen keeping Michael secret. The author does tell the story in easy following style with class.

The only issue I had with the story is some things are just a no-no and you do not do. If they had been dating etc I would have went with it but if you are married you do not hook up with your brother/sister wife/husband. Being in this spot once myself (which was a very touchy issue not saying anything but walking away with a no thank you) the word that always comes to mind is NO THANK YOU and move on. Nothing good can come out of an affair and one of this type is BAD.  I did think the author carried it off nicely I just didn't care for this story line. It would have been one thing if everyone in the family new it was a fake marriage, since Zach didn't he should have made sure they were never alone. Just my two cents...

Tanya Eby did an outstanding job as narrator her words are always clean. You male and female voices are great. She hits on the correct tones and emotions that you feel you can feel them. She always gives you a wonder audio with a very clear listen, no background noise. You can not tell if or when she takes a break between chapters. You have no trouble telling who is talking and the change from male to female voices is easy and clear. I love listening to this narrators voice it is always a pleasure picking up one of her audios.

I have to say the author does change things and rock this series. The plots are different and she does keep them interesting. When you think you know what she has planned for her characters she changes it and takes it a different way. The one thing I love in this series is it is based on family and friends value. It doesn't seem so when most of these people meet through rent a marriage but each one has style and a goal. A lesson of what is important as the author gives you a very touching romance. I thought it was a good listen just wasn't my favorite, with any series you have some you do not care for as others. I am glad I listened to this it fills in some places that would be missing as the series continues. I am really looking forward to listening to the rest of this series.

Beyond Secrets: A Madison Hart Mystery
By DB Jones

5 Stars
My Review

For me this book started out slow but soon took off as the author sucked me in with a page turner. She gives you some major twist that you won't see coming. I had this mystery of who done it worked out after the first few chapters. I thought to myself hummm this was to easy. I FORGOT only believe half of what you see and never anything you read. I had part of it worked out but I never saw that coming for sure. LOL. She gives you mystery, suspense, thrills and danger as she throws in just a little romance. This author knows how to draw you in and keep your attention as she spins a wonderful tale of who, what and when. There is a killer loose who will be the next victim?  What is it going to take to bring the killer in before another women comes up missing

Madison is with the FBI when her sister gets sick her old friend calls her in to help with a case that just doesn't feel right. It is a missing person they want to do an article on it thinking it will be news worthy. They start thinking all the missing women are tied together now to find what they have in command. As they get closer to the killer Madison life could be in danger. They must find the killer before more women come up missing. Madison has her hands full as she partners with Detective Logan sparks fly as the meet head on to work through the puzzles in a race to find the killer.  I really like Madison she is strong not letting anything get in her way of putting the pieces together. She is a hard worker who is caring and helpful to those around her. She really gives 110 percent to her job and her family. She really cares about these victims and does everything in her power to find them.

When Josh Logan first meets Madison he thinks she is a stuck up lady with an attitude like most FBI sticking their nose where it doesn't belong.  It doesn't take him long to know she knows her stuff as he follows her around piece it together. He just wishes he didn't find her attractive which is making it hard to keep his mind on his job. Oh they butt heads a few times this sure is one bullhead women. She is like a dog with a bone, never stops and keeps him on his toes. When things take a turn and it looks like she is in danger he does everything he can to keep her safe. Josh is good at his job, together these two make on heck of a team. I really like Josh he is kind of an alpha with a great sense of humor, caring and very protective.

This is one author that doesn't give much away as she spins a wonderful story that sucks you in with a compelling read. There are very few clues of who the killer is but if you look close enough you might work it out. She gives you wonderful characters with such compassion not only for their jobs but for those around them. The supporting characters are great even those you aren't supposed to like you can't help but like. She keeps your heart pumping as you think she is going to take the story one way and she goes another. This was a very well written story with pain as they find the missing women trying to work out who the killer is and why. I could not put this book down and read it at one setting. The author gives you just a hint of romance with her main story being of the missing women. At times she gives you a humorous read with keeps the story interesting. This is one author to keep your eyes on as I am sure she will someday be a bestseller. I found her in a post where others were talking about what a wonderful author she is. The author and book description got my attention what I found was an author that is a pot of gold who is very talented and gives a compelling read that you do not want to put down.. I cannot wait to read the next in this series to see what Madison gets into and where it takes her. I am really surprised this author doesn't have more reviews she is very talented as she gives you a wonderful entertaining read that keeps you turning the pages. If you haven't read anything by this author you really should pick up this book.

My Review
4 stars
This is a real dark realistic story of drug and what they will do to you. Living in low incoming housing is no reason to let the world bring you down to their level.  Bleu has dreams she is going to get out and better herself. Living with drug user parents and seeing how it effects life she will not let it have that effect on her. Her life has been hard just when she is about to get out things turn worse leaving her shot. From there things just go down hill, she still won't give up her dream, with a little help from a friend that pushes her to move on she does just that.

Even though this is not my cup of tea I did feel this was well written with many twist and turns to keep you the reader interested. This book could have been pulled out of todays headlines the author gives you real characters that you feel compassion for. Bleu at a very young age I just wanted to grab pull her out of the book and take her home with me. There are some characters you just want to pick up and shake others will grab your heart.

It was a pleasure to see Bleu pick her self up rising above her past although I wouldn't have make some of the decision she did and was a little shocked that she was pulled into what she ran so far from. It was still an intriguing read with the author bring true issues right in your face with no pretty flowers or pretty words this not a book for the light of heart. If you have trouble with very raw issues such as rape and drug addiction that shows the true side than this is not the book for you. I do have to say this does end in a cliffhanger that will reach in an grab you. I have to say this was not my cup of tea but it was well written and believable. There will be readers out there that love this type of read. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean it will not be for you.

Determined: Western Historical Romance (Lipstick and Lead Book 5)
By Sylvia McDaniel

4.5 stars

I loved the strong characters and the fact that they are the two most unlikely people to fall in love.  Hannah and Jackson put the town on their ears as they come together to not only clean up the town but put some very bad men in jail. What do you do when your stepfather sales you into prostitution? You break out with help and become a bounty hunter with your first goal to kill the man who sold you, then take out the madam who made your life a living hell as you free the young girls she has bought. This isn't as easy as it sound when you are up against a town run by a corrupted lawman and a crooked madam and the preacher who turned his back on you in your hour of need.

Hannah is my kind of lady strong and a go getter. She isn't letting any grass grow under her feet as she takes on the whole town to get even and set the record straight. When she sees a man being beaten she waits, takes him in when they leave him for dead. Only to find he is the preacher who turn his back on her when she begged for help. When most would have turned their back on him she takes care of him. She is on a mission to save the soled doves that have been kidnap to be sold into prostitution. With the preachers help somewhere along the way she might just find being with a man isn't a bad thing.

When Jackson first came to town saw Hannah she beg him for help he said you made your bed now lay in it. When he found out girls were being taken and sold he felt guilty that he had not helped Hannah. He makes it his life work to help release those poor girls who were kidnapped in return he got beaten within an inch of his life. He might be a preacher but he is still a man and a sinner. He does his best to resist Hannah but somethings are hard as he finds out. He might not have helped her when she needed him the most but he values to keep her safe as she takes on the whole town bring justice to the girls done wrong by freeing them and cleaning up the town of outlaws.

I would have liked to have known a little more about the stepfathers past. He just didn't come off to me as being dumb or even that mean. What he did do was bad but I just didn't get the mean bone feeling I should have. The madam is something else I could feel her meanness all the way along with the sheriff. Bring the towns people around now that was something and at times very funny.

The author gives you a page turner before you know it you are so drawn in with all the twists and turns. Hannah has two goals to free the ladies and to kill. Jackson shows her a better way as he gives her his love in hopes she will find a better way to reach her goals. The author gives you a great read with some very serious issues as she installs humor to turn the characters around to her way of thinking. Hannah could have made some very bad choices the author gives you the preacher to show her the errors of her ways in this complex humors read. This was very well written with wonderful characters you can relate to. You get to see justice prevail as Hannah comes to her senses learning the correct way to bring her man in as well as take the town by storm. I really enjoyed this read found it to be very entertaining as well as having wonderful characters. I know others are going to enjoy this as much as I have.

Every Little Kiss (Kissed by the Bay Book 1)
By Susan Hatler

4 Stars

This book is about second chances maybe not in the way you think. With a death in the family it is time for Wendy to rethink her life as she turns home after many years of carrying hurt and pain from her past to find people are not very happy with her. This is a story about finding yourself, getting over the past, forgiving and accepting people for what and who they are. The author gives you humor, sorrow and pain as Wendy works through her past to find not only love but a family she has lost.

Wendy was a very likeable character she has a very trying time with life full of bad memories that she cannot forget or forgive starting from a very young age. I do feel if her brother would have acted different on the day that her whole world changed the outcome might have been different for her. She really has only one person in life that she can count on that is her grandmother. As with most of us we cannot see things or we forget when we are to close and forget to be thankful for what you have looking more at what you do not have. With one last nail in her coffin she decides when she graduates she is starting over somewhere else never coming back to the Inn at Blue Moon Bay. Even with the hurt and pain of the past she does keep in touch with her grandmother and brother meeting them all over for birthdays etc just not at Blue Moon Bay. I have to say at times Wendy got on my nerves but she was a great character just needed to put the past behind her as she remembers some better times. When Max comes on the scene she remembers you cannot count on anyone as she tries her best to put space between them. Max is having nothing of this.

Max is a dear as well as very sexy he sees a lady on the beach and is pulled to her. He does have places he needs to be, he just cannot walk away from Wendy. Even with Wendy putting as much space between them as she can he will not give up. Max has a few secrets if they get out before he can come clean could mean the end of their relationship. He is having a hard enough time trying to get her to agree to giving them a chance. I have to say I really enjoyed this character he puts his life on hold to bring this little lady to heel. He kept me smiling at his humor and his wonderful caring ways.

In a lot of ways this was a story I could relate to. The author gives from the heart of a brother and sister whose parents might not be the best but at least they did find a safe place for them. We always want what we can't have forgetting what we do have. This is a story about working over the past which will bring you the future. Her grandmother brings her home in hope that she will find herself why getting over her pain and forgiving those who caused it. In doing so Wendy might find the one thing she wants most in her life her family and a man to love.

I have come to enjoy Ms. Hatler stories she always gives me a lesson in life that I have forgotten as she gives me a story that stays with me as she keeps me thinking about my own life. This was one story that really touched my heart it is never easy to forgive when you have lost so much at a very young age. I enjoy how she puts humor into a story which makes it more lifelike and one you can relate to. I know her fans will love this new one as the author gives you a story of a heartbroken girl and her past as she grows to understand the past which leads her to her future.

Book Description
When Wendy Watts left Blue Moon Bay, she vowed never to return to the small coastal town where her parents had abandoned her and her brother. Now she’s a successful Realtor, and a workaholic who stays away from complicated emotions—until her grandmother dies, leaving Wendy the Inn at Blue Moon Bay and mandating that if Wendy sells it, she must put it on the market herself “in person.”

As soon as Wendy arrives in Blue Moon Bay, bad memories, the inn’s poor condition, and her brother’s pleas to keep the inn overwhelm her. Then she meets a sexy laid-back stranger on the beach, and Wendy does something she never does . . . she opens up and confides her problems to him. Since Max Huntington’s only in town for one night, Wendy spontaneously kisses him, hoping to be distracted from her troubles for just one evening.

But when Wendy begins the painstaking process of fixing up the inn in order to sell it, Max tells her he’s staying on longer. He’s enchanted by the charming inn and even more with the kisses they shared on the beach. He wants to help her with the repairs, and she reluctantly accepts his offer.

Although she’s determined to remain detached from the allure of her inn, Blue Moon Bay and Max, every repair, every stroll on the beach, and every moment spent with Max, draws her in and reminds her of the local legend she’d believed as a child: that being kissed by the bay under a blue moon will lead to love that lasts forever.
