Deadly Defense

Deadly Defense
Grace Gaynor Christian Mysteries, Book 1
By: R. Barri Flowers
Narrated by: Jane Boyer
Length: 8 hrs and 7 mins
Unabridged
Release date: 10-31-17

What a great mystery thriller that keeps you guessing and on your toes, as I read I knew the author was trying to push me in one direction but I also knew it was a setup but it sure looked like he did it. I had other people in my sights but one by one they were cleared. When the end came I was totally shock to the outcome. The author gives a very entertaining plot that keeps you guessing until the end with a few shocking moments.

Grace has had a hard time dealing with nightmares and life since her attack where she killed her attacker. As she relived this trying time I was pulled in and almost felt like I was right there with her. The author writes of a brutal attack giving you enough information to know how brutal it was but in a way that it isn’t over bearing. A lot of detail isn’t given letting the reader use their mind so they can deal with attack in their own way.  When her boss talks her into coming to a therapist to help with her issues and nightmares giving her his doctors name.  From the first the visit helps her on the second he helps her more, making her make a list of her day and nights to help find the trigger that brings them on. The author gives a compelling story that really has the listener hooked. Once the doctor said to go on her own and see how things goes. When her best friend is murdered and everyone pointing fingers at the good doctor Grace doesn’t know what to think, she knows he couldn’t have done it not the man she knew.

At first the narration was a little slow but after the first few sentence she really gets into the emotion of the characters giving a good performance. Her tones are a little dry but I would expect that from someone who has went through all that Grace has. It is hard to show true emotion after going so far inside yourself to survive.  Unlike another reviewer I didn’t have any trouble knowing who was talking. I thought her character voices were good and fit the part of each character.  The narrator made me feel each emotion. My heart just about broke when seeing all that Grace had to deal with as she found out her friend was dead and how she died. There are no background noises, no volume changes just a very clean and clear audio that I thought the narrator delivery was great.  I thought her character voices were really good, she shows true emotion even dry when needs to be to make it a more believable story.

The author really pulls on the readers heartstrings as the doctor is taken in and Grace is called to be his lawyer. Her best friend or her friend how does she pick, she wants her best friends murder to find justice but what if he is her doctor friend how will she deal with all the fall out not only to her but her employer? She truly believes the doctor is innocent but as time goes by she has to question herself. She turns it all over to God’s hands asking for the strength to go on giving the doctor the best defense she can. Even with things pointing to the doctor there are things pointing away from him. She takes this and runs with it.

The author gives a compelling story that had me hooked almost from the first page. The story was very believable. I didn’t know what to think, at times I thought the doctor may be guilty and if so how would Grace take that if he got off and she found out later he did it. The story really takes off with a lot of turns as you go one way the author takes you another. You can tell a lot of thought went into writing this to really mess with the readers mind having them doubt everything they had just read. I found the book to be very entertaining and enjoyable with all the twists and turns.  The ending was very much a surprise I was even shocked and can’t say why. I think most will really enjoy this story and love how it is laid out.

Into Dust

Into Dust (The Montana Hamiltons #5)
by B.J. Daniels

The Story continues the plot thickens as someone stalks and tries to kidnap Cassidy. With luck on her side one handsome Texan steps up to the plate saving her. They are on the run trying to work out the mystery of her mother and his father and how the two are involved. As these two hunt for answers romance comes in to play why they are being hunted down. With their lives on the line will they get the answers they are seeking or will time run out leaving them at deaths door?

Ms. Daniels knows how to spin a story that hooks you from the start with adventure, action and thrills. If you have been following this series you know Cassidy’s mother Sarah is mixed up to her pretty neck in some shady dealings. Just as Sarah’s memory is starting to return Cassidy and Jack work together to find out just how their parents are mixed up in this mess. There is danger all around with people wanting people dead, or wants them to live town and get out of their lives. But the plans have been put into motion there is no backing out even if they wanted to. Here you will find some answers to some of the questions you have been having from the first of this series. There are lots of answers but still leaves you asking some more.

I have really enjoyed this series as the mystery comes together in each new book. I love the plot that keeps the reader hanging on finding out a little more that pulls you in giving you some heart stopping moments. The characters become real as the author takes you on a trip of danger, romance, and excitement with some very thrilling and at times chilling reading. Politics can be a danger play ground as these two find out. There is a story inside the story of a sheriff and his wife where his ex is stalking them through her daughter. The beloved crows are back with a heartwarming story that really grabs your heart. Cassidy father has lost so much over many years but finally has his heart’s desire close within reach. You know the saying be careful what you wish for…that saying might just have something to do with this story as they author keeps us guessing holding out for the next book in the series. I can’t wait to find out how this all plays out.

This series holds your attention giving you excitement, from murder to wife coming back from the dead with a mission that has been planned out for many years. Thing aren’t going the way it was planned people change life mores on but one thing has stayed the same that is that a Hamiliton must become president. There are people who will kill to make this happen no matter who gets in their way. Which leaves Cassidy and Jack next on their list as they hunt them down trying to get back what was taken that could end their plans. I found myself holding my breath as the plot plays out, there were times I said no, no don’t do that you will be sorry. Sarah is starting to grow on me as her story come out it is touching and heartbreaking but I have to wonder as we find out more will she go back to her old ways or will we find things aren’t as we see them. Out of every character I think my heart goes out more to Cassidy father to is a pawn in what I think is a mad crazy group leaving us wondering just why they want him to be President and what are their plans for him. Cassidy and Jake have a wonderful romance you will be very surprised how this all plays out. I am holding my breath as I pick up the next book in this series wondering what will happen to this family and they ones they love.

If you are looking for a thrilling, adventure along with lots of romance for 6 sisters and their parents you will want to read this series. It is so much more than a romance as a family that lost everything trying to do the best they can over many years only to have what they have built torn down when their mother returns from the dead with a mission in play that could leave many dead and lives destroyed all because of one group that came together in the 70’s that wanted to make a difference but really just seems out to destroy the country they love.

Agent G: Infiltrator

Agent G: Infiltrator

Written by: C. T. Phipps

Narrated by: Jeffrey Kafer

Length: 6 hrs and 6 mins

Unabridged Audiobook

Release Date:03-29-17

Publisher: Amber Cove Publishing

I really liked this audio when I think ahead to the future I can see this being it. The story goes into the aliens and the issues they had and have with them. When I think about the time they come to earth I really hope I am not here to see it. I do not see any good coming out of it. The author goes into issues that could be touchy from the dead to being a live, the world is not as we know it today. States may or may not be there. The things they do with items we hold precious will blow your mind. Really the whole story is wonderful planned down to the last detail the whole book is mind blowing. I have no trouble picturing this as our future.

Mr. Kafer does a great job in his narration he has an agent voice that really pulls you in as he becomes part of his characters. His voice at first I didn’t care for because it sounded so agent like but I came to understand that is how it needed to be and grew to love it. It is a very strong voice that pulls you in making you forget you are listening as it becomes more of a movie. There are no background noise, no volume changes, and no repeats of working. His character voices are wonderful from his males to his females. His computer voice is so real just like you would picture it. He really brings the danger alive, as well as the excitement from each new obstacle that is overcome. Mr. Kafer puts a lot of emotion into his audio’s giving the reader a wonderful listen. His voice and tones never leaving you guessing you know just what each character is feeling from their excitement to their anger. His performance is outstanding giving you a clear, clean crisp audio you get lost in.

My heart went out to Agent G what it must feel like not to know who you are. Having to overcome so much and learn everything all over again. Than as he felt he was part of the military at one time I really felt for him and what he had become. There is a love interest as well as confusion on his part and on the computer chip in his mind. The world this author built seemed so real as well as the characters. This was an audio I couldn’t put down from the many different things the future holds and the new things it brings as well as the danger, excitement of all the twist and turns that are just so thrilling and at times chilling.  You will never see California or Tennessee along with a few other states the same again. As I listened to this it remind me of the movie V where the aliens wanted and took what they wanted. This is how I see the future if they ever make it here.

I was a little confused at first of what a walk about was but it wasn’t long before the author brought to life just what it entitled and the danger it brings. This is a story of starting over, meeting your past and future head on, reality as well as the danger it brings. It is a story of hope and death, making a difference and just what the military means. What if there was no military who would save us? People become to set in their ways over looking issues but one man sees the future and knows the day will come when we must fight with all we have to keep everyone alive. There are those that feel this fight will never come as they wear their rose color glasses they are in for a rude awaking.

I was drawn from the first page as G is born, how he felt, his confusion and his fight to stay alive and bring justice to a world he doesn’t know. There are things one should never forget, one is how to fight keeping your love ones safe. One man gives his all and may die to save us all. It is setup for the next book in the series at least I hope there is another one. It really hit home for me how easy one gets use to the life we live and forget what we need to remember. I totally was invested and loved this plot, the characters that seem so real. I can hardly wait for the next book I wonder who it will be. There are others on the walk about will they be as interesting as G? I can’t wait to find out what this author has in store for us.

Sleeper Protocol

Sleeper Protocol

Written by: Kevin Ikenberry
Narrated by: Nathan Dunford
Length: 11 hrs and 23 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:11-02-16
Publisher: Red Adept Publishing, LLC

Sleeper Protocol is by far one of the best narrations I have ever listened to. The plot is outstanding and very realistic. I can see this coming true and it would make a wonderful movie. I was hooked from the first page until the last. The author gives you a plot based on the future when there are no need for soldiers, the wars are over or so they believe. The land changed forever, nothing is as you remember it with so many shocking changes that leave you wondering what the heck happened. The author gives very vivid details you can picture each scene. There really isn’t much filler at all just thrills, adventure and action at the best. One group decides to play with nature changing the way a human thinks, feels and wants in doing so they have taken one man waking him up not knowing who or what he is. There is another group that you aren’t sure just what they plan. You know how it is when you plan things it never goes as you want. You are in for a wild ride and loving it all the way.

They send him on a walk about without answering a lot of questions. He has a prototype in his brain that will help him as he needs. He needs to work through stages to find who he is and decide what he will do. He is lost in more ways than one and must work through not only his future but his past. There is danger all around with people who want him dead and one who wants him to succeed at any cost. The question is will he and what will it cost him?

I was blown away by Mr. Dunford’s narration from the first page he pulled me in leaving me hanging on his every word. I do not know how he did the sounds effect but they sounds natural and robotic just as one would picture it to be. He has a wonderful strong voice that you get lost in, there were no repeats of words or any place where the volume was higher or lower. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. His character voices are just wonderful, his female voices were great as was his males. You always know what each character is feeling with powerful emotion he deliveries throughout the audio. I am just blown away with how realistic it sounded. I had no trouble picturing the story and scenes as they unfold holding me captive from start to finish. There are no background noises just a clean, crisp, clear outstanding audio that I could not put down. The sound effects are out of this world pulling the reader in from every corner giving you a story you can’t put down. Walmart just loves me when I get so into the listen I keep shopping so I can listen longer. This is one narrator that knows how to perform keeping you invested and very entertained.  I am so looking forward to listening to more of his work.

The author put a lot of thought into writing this story making it very believable. The first thing that came to mind is wow that is just amazing. The next thing was this is how I see the future he nailed it right on the money. There is romance and passion along with excitement, danger, lots of questions and a wonderful ending. Your heart really goes out to Kieran leaves you wondering how someone could do this to him and then you fall in love with him as he works through it all to find out who he was and is. When he finds romance you wonder just how this can turn out good. Then there is the prototype that throws a spin in the plot. Just when you think you have a handle the author changes direction leaving you with your mouth hung open at times. There are twists and turns that surprises you and pulls you in. Berkeley maybe a scientist first but she is a woman with feeling and falls for Kieran. I was excited for them both but all is not good with people hunting them down and many more issues they will have to deal with. The really made a great couple. She can do so much for him but she could be the death of him.

The ending is wonderful and so unexpected. There are a few places you will be sad at the unknown and your heart will break. There were places I just closed my eyes and hung my head. I was so into this that the characters became real to me. I held my breath a time or two and even did a little yelling. This is well written with the author leaving it setup for book 2. I so want it now and cannot wait for it to come out. 5 Star plus from start to finish WOW just WOW loved it. I really can’t say anymore or you will not be surprised when things happen. You will be very entertained and glad you picked this up for a listen. I want to say thank you to both the author and narrator for really giving me a wonderful wild ride that keep me hook and entertained for hours.
