Sacrifice

Sacrifice (The Silent Ranks series Book 1)
by Krys Adams

The author gives a story of lost, pain, sorrow, and starting over only to find what you believed was real really wasn’t. Once falsehoods become truths the lost, pain, sorrow and starting over starts again with a new meaning and a life that will never be the same again. There is a song that fits this story so well…. (I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then, I wish I could start this whole thing over again, I just don't wanna know how it ends, You'd still have my heart in the palm of your hands, I'd still look like a fool in front of your friends, Yeah I wish somehow I didn't know now what I didn't know then….) Moving on isn’t easy but when your past, that you thought you lost comes back and you have a new life and a new love it just goes from bad to worse. What if that past has a dangerous secret you didn’t know about that could get you killed. Delilah is about to find out just how dangerous her dead husband secrets can be for her. What pulls you into this story is the pain of a very sweet strong woman and how she overcomes all that life throws at her even when those answers put her in danger she stands proud.

After Delilah’s husband’s death her friend talks her into moving and starting a business together. Things are going pretty well when she meets Maddox who is charming, caring and loving. The two are very attracted to each other, as their relationship starts growing love blossoms. Their chemistry is wonderful as you are pulled in from the heartwarming ways the author writes. Then things start happening that changes things greatly. Delilah has some rough roads she has to face, decisions that won’t be easy. Maddox is there every step of the way supporting her and helping her through some hard times. He is just amazing. There are some major twists that might leave Maddox on the side lines by his self that is if Delilah doesn't end up dead first.

I enjoyed the plot, the suspense, excitement, thrills and danger along with the romance, and the supporting characters. It is a suspenseful read but it is so much more it is truly heartwarming and at times melts your insides. I loved the humor and even laughed and chuckled a few times. I found myself talking to the characters and becoming very invested in the story and its characters.  It will be interesting to see where the author takes this series, I really can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the next book in the series.

The Boys Club

The Boys Club
by Angie Martin

The author gives you a highly entertaining read that hooks you from the first page until the last. It is packed with action adventure, suspense, betrayal, double-dealing, mystery and twists and turns you won’t see coming. I believe in rules and law but I also believe, sometimes you need to push that line and go outside the box to find justice. The author gives you such thrilling read of danger, justices with an organization led by a former FBI agent who push the lines. They get the job done when others have to stay inside the lines. Logan has his own goals in life, he will find and kill the man who killed his wife. Logan’s mission is to save Sara, her life isn’t going very well, if her father isn’t controlling her than her soon to be husband is. I thought I forgot to say her father is the man he wants to take out and the man Sarah is the most in danger with.

Sarah doesn’t know it but today is her lucky day as Logan puts his plan into action and kidnaps her. He must convince her he is the good guy and make her trust him. I loved the romance, the characters, it really is exciting and thrilling ride, you have a little bit of everything The author gives vivid details that pulls you leaving you hanging on the edge, turning the pages having to know what is going to happen next. Lord what a ride and I loved every minute of it. I was so invested I read it at one setting and didn’t want it to end.

The Bends

The Bends
A Kane Montgomery Novel, Book 1
By: Bart Hopkins
Narrated by: Luke Daniels
Length: 7 hrs and 43 mins
Unabridged
Release date: 01-04-18

I really didn’t know what to expect when I started listening to this audio. I had never heard of this author or narrator. When listening to the sample I was intrigue once I started listening to the audio in no time at all the author and narrator pulled me in giving me an amazing outstanding ride that I totally loved. The author gives you a touch of romance but you don’t really see it, its like a tree in the far distances when looking at the land you know that little tree is there but the rest of the view is so breath taking you do not narrow in on the tree. It has a nice touch to it and adds so much to the story and plot. The plot is based around a small town and its people, along with the children, families that come up missing, there is mystery, danger, suspense and a little paranormal. There is evil, but not everything is white or black it is mixed with a little red when death is near.

Mr. Daniels’s narration just blew me out of the water with his wonderful character voices, tones and the way he laid the plot out that as the author wrote it. He pauses just long enough for the facts to sink in pulling you in deeper to the story. His male and female voices are powerful with so many different voices that are truly very different from each other. He has no problem pulling off the high sex females or the cute young women along with deep older man. His redneck pain in the butt voice is a delight as well as his young excited teen, his sexy ex soldier is a dream. There is nothing I didn’t like about his performance. I would have to say my favorite is Birdie on the sexy women who has taken the town over. The emotions Mr. Daniels brings to this audio is outstanding from the sound effect that makes you think he is talking through a blow horn to the excitement, fear, even the romance between the two main characters. I had no trouble feeling every emotion that the characters do. There are no background noises, no volume changes, if any breaks were taken I could not tell. The narrator deliveries a wonderful clear, crisp audio I totally got lost in. I even forgot I was listening. For me he made this story a five star listen. He pulled me in took me away and I didn’t want to put it end.

The plot is great, the author really put a lot of thought this along putting some major twists and turns along with the buildup of the mystery that really holds you spellbound. You know there is evil near but you can’t put your finger on it until you get closer to the end of the story. You know what it is built around as well as a few of the people who have their hands in the pot and why they do. Things are not as they seem at times I had chills and I can’t tell you what it was from because it would give too much away. This isn’t a story you can really go into or you lose the surprise and it would take away from the reader. What I can tell you is there are some wonderful characters, some scary ones, and some very cute ones. The town is wonderful just a sweet old country town that I fall in love with. The author gives a wonderful mix of humor, seriousness, passion, fun and sorrow. He makes you chuckle and at times leaves you with your heart in your throat. There was even a time or two when I held my hands to my mouth thinking OH NO please No, and then he would have me smiling again at the baiting, the witty humor, and we would go full circle again. The ending is good the mystery is solved but it is a little of a cliffhanger oh the story is complete but the author sets it up for the next story leaving you wondering what is in store for the main characters. Is it worth your time? OH YES, you will find so much enjoyment between these pages from the mystery to the danger to the unknown as well as the paranormal. I hope you will pick up this audio and give it a try you are in for a delightful treat.

Silent Threat (Mission Recovery #1)

Silent Threat (Mission Recovery #1)
by Dana Marton

Wow as I set down to write this I go back and reflect on what stood out, what grabbed my attention. The first things that always comes to mind bring a BIG smile to my face is when Cole goes searching the offices and comes across one office stepping back when he sees needles hanging. At this time I am laughing out loud and I cannot get that picture out of my head. It is well worth the read just to read this part of the book.  If that isn’t enough it is fast pace with a little action, a touch of romance, danger, mystery of deaths and why they are dying, along with some heart break of losing a solider along with going through trying time to find yourself and wanting to be back with your team. Cole has lost part of his feeling in his one arm, deaf and has major flash backs. He has trouble dealing with day to day life. What better person to go to a rehab center for Vets where someone is leaking sensitive military information to the enemy. His boss thinks he is the best man for the job, poor Cole would rather be anywhere but here with these tree hugs. NO way NO how is he hugging any trees to get this job done. Cole was the perfect person for this mission he was in real need as he even pointed out that maybe his boss sent him here to help him work through his problems. I think it was a mixture of both.  His handicaps are real, which makes him a believable person to be there. His hearing loss was an eye opener which made it hard to do the job he was given but not impossible.

Annie is the tree hugger who does amazing things for wound soldiers getting them back to nature finding their enter self and letting them find some peace to take the next step in life. She has some wonderful point that even us who read it should be able to enjoy setting ourselves a little freer getting away from our stressful lives. It doesn’t take long for her to find out Cole is going to be a handful in so many ways. There is a very strong draw to Cole even though they do not get off to a good start she gives it her all hoping she can help him find his way to a more stress free life and less nightmares.  She does play a big part in the plot with her ex stalking her could he be the one who keeps leaving things for her?

I really love the tree hugging issue Cole has he has a wonderful personality, a little off humor which is good, easy to like and oh so easy to laugh with. I enjoyed watching Annie turn the tables on him bring him out a little getting him to do things her way and how she did that is amazing and fun. I liked the budding romance the easy way it flows. The mystery of who the killer is holds your attention and keeps you guessing. The way the book opens up you are left guessing if there was a murder or just an accident. The mystery of the codes getting out I try hard to work it out but I never really made it, the author had to give me a few more clues. It was really fun watching these two run in circles around each other, their misunderstanding and watching them fall over each other but keeping their distance.  Suspense is wonderful filled with a few heart stopping moments. The danger of the unknown with bodies starting to add up keeping the reader guessing. One needs to remember this plot is about finding the person who is sending the codes not so much about healing the wounded. No not everyone is helped which makes it a more believable story. Some you see getting better and leaving, others it will take more time. No Cole didn’t get all better but he was better and it did help him being there. What is important is the giving of classify information and that person being taken down along with it we learn a little more about military issues of our troops of their mind and body after going through all they have. Being a military supporter and spending time with him online I can tell the author has done her home work. The way she lays the story out with their issues of coming home, starting over, wishing it was you and not your buddy that was lost, feeling helpless and alone, from the flashbacks to the nightmares she has it to a T.

The ending leaves you with your heart in your throat waiting to see the outcome.  What it boils down to is the excitement, holding you on the edge, the danger, the fear, the unknown, the mystery, humor that makes this a page turner and a wonderful start to a wonderful new series.

I can’t wait to listen to this on Audible

Summary
A former Navy SEAL, Cole Makani Hunter has returned home from a disastrous black ops mission without his best friend, his hearing, or the use of his right arm. So when his ex–commanding officer assigns him to an undercover mission at a rehab center for vets to discover who leaked sensitive military information to an enemy, he’d rather be anywhere but there. Almost immediately, Cole finds himself at odds with Annie Murray—a peace-loving ecotherapist whose dream is to open an animal sanctuary out of her home. While the two seemingly have nothing in common, their spirited arguments soon fuel a passion for each other.
But just as things begin to heat up between therapist and patient, dangerous complications arise. So does the past—and a shocking revelation that puts Cole and everything he now holds dear in the path of a murderous traitor.
