Josie's Dream (Grandma's Wedding Quilts)

Josie's Dream (Grandma's Wedding Quilts Book 9)
by Angela Raines

This is a pretty exciting read with lots of action, a few thrills with outlaws, robbery, kidnapping and lessons in compassion, helping, building up others to make them believe in their selves. Again another delightful story of a woman born before her time that wants to be independent and have a career. Way back when women did not have those things they married, had kids and their husband word was law. Josie’s dreams are about to come true the only thing wrong with this she is a woman in a man’s world. There is no way any man will trust her to doctor him until they have no choice. This is one little lady that knows how to take a town by storm never backing down as she draws  her lines and pushing them just a little at a time until she has the town at her feet.  The only thing missing is a family which she doesn’t believe she will ever have since no man will let her work. She has given that dream up to be a doctor.

Will is very taken by Josie but his life is no life for a woman to live, she wants roots he can’t give her that.  He fills with his past he isn’t good enough. He comes to her aide more that once pulling her out of trouble. She sure is one stubborn women and he wouldn’t have her any other way.

I really liked the characters in this book Josie is just so sweet, kind and so giving of her time. Will is handsome, a little wild but strong and stands his ground. The author throws a few twist you won’t see coming getting both Josie and Will into a mess of trouble.  Will wants to keep her safe and Josie said she can take care of herself. Lord this women is driving him to drink. The author gives you a realistic story you get lost in staying up late to finish it. There is action that will have you holding your breath waiting to see if anyone will come out alive.  I just love the ending it very touching, loving, and leaving you smiling. I love how grandma’s quilt comes to play giving a wonderful since of family with values. I have not read anything by this author but I sure will be checking out more of her work. She is a delight to read knowing how to pull you in, get your heart pumping with danger all around.

Wicked in His Arms

Wicked in His Arms (Wedded by Scandal #2)
by Stacy Reid

This is an author that knows how to keep her readers invested in her stories with action from start to finish. You have scandal after scandal, passion, lots of emotion, control of one’s feelings, betrayal, mystery, and so much more.

Lady Olivia was born way before her time being raised by a father that treated her more like a son she learned to do all the things a lady should not be doing. This causing her trouble as she grows older with her father leaving a scandal with his death and her tomboy was it isn’t easy to make a good match. The ton does not forgive or forget easily, you must out live not only your past but the past of your parents.  When she is put into a situation she must go on the hunt for a husband. She doesn’t enjoy the balls and parties but she does her best to curve her wild ways that is until she runs into Lord Tobias who disproves of everything she is. The man is at every turn catching her doing non lady like things. He has no trouble telling her of her wicked ways and just what he thinks of them and her.

Lord Tobias must marry into a good family to be able to put his father’s scandal behind him. He will not be like his father and give in to his tempter and wild passionate ways. His family history of the males full of rage and jealously showing their selves to the ton as out of control men keeping the ton with gossip for years to come he must overcome this at all cost and give his children a life they will be proud of. He needs to find a wife that is calm, quite and meek he cannot let his emotions get in the way. There is one problem all the women he knows are airheads, screaming, tears and swooning when they do not get their way. He cannot stand this and feels no women should every cry or show emotion of any kind.   His first meeting with Lady Olivia has him in a tailspin from her wild ways that no women should have, to the pull of her tempter lord what passion she must have inside her. He liked nothing better than to bed her but knows this cannot be she makes him feel all the emotions he swore he never feel.

This two hit head on from the start baiting each other as tempters fly their passion grows with it coming to a head in the closet at a house party they find their selves in a scandal of the year leaving them no choice but to marry. This should be easy the tons have rules and demands that must be followed but Lady Olivia doing the unexpected puts a tailspin on it. It seems these two can’t keep their selves out of trouble giving the ton more scandal then it has seen in years.  Will Lady Olivia give in and marry him and if so how will Lord Tobias keep his tempter and emotions in check this is one woman that drives him beyond his control. Lady Olivia wants to rule her own life not to have a husband tell her what to do.  Lord Tobias must be in control which gives some very exciting reading. As these two lay their cards on the table each has demand the other must meet. It was exciting to see who would bend and on what issue they were willing to over look.

The author gives a thrilling read that really pulls you in, from one scandal to the next with such excitement and thrills in each. It was a book I could not put down I stayed up late to finish it. I loved Lord Tobias secret and how his use it in the end. The ending was wonderful leaving you with laughter and a smile. I loved the humor, baiting, and the emotion each character brings to the story. At first I wasn’t sure but it didn’t take long for this author to pull me in. For me this was a very exciting read, at times I felt so much for Lady Olivia and all she had and is still dealing with. Just when you think she is in a corner she comes out fighting with things that will shock not only the ton but the reader as well. At times she had me saying you go girl show them what you are made of. There were times I really felt for  Lord Tobias his past is not a good one and at times he scared me with his tempter and action. At the same time he pulled me in with his charm and honor. There are times my heart broke for each of them and other times I was laughing out loud. It really is a great story that I will read again and again. The author brings so much excitement to the table in this fast pace romance. There is never a dole moment, I loved the plot and the characters. With the right narrator this would make a wonderful audio. I can even see this in a movie that would keep you on the edge that you won’t want to miss a moment of it. I pick this as one of my favorite reads for
2017.

Summary
Tobias Walcott, the Earl of Blade, has learned it is best to exercise rigid control over his passions and emotions in all that he does. Uncaring that it makes him seem cool and aloof to most in the ton, he is content with his desire to only woo agreeable and demur females. Then unforeseen circumstances see him trapped in a closet at a house party with the last woman he would ever make his countess.

Lady Olivia Sherwood is everything he should not desire in a female—unconventional, too decisive, and utterly without decorum. But passion ignites between them and they are discovered. Honor demands they wed, and while Tobias finds himself unwillingly drawn to the bewitching beauty, he must do everything not to tempt the passion that burns in him for her, lest it leads to disastrous consequences.

Kizzie's Kisses (Grandma's Wedding Quilts

Kizzie's Kisses (Grandma's Wedding Quilts Book 2)
by Zina Abbott

I loved this from start to finish, it is filled with action from the first page to the last. The author gives you a thrilling read of attacks of all kinds from Indians to rough and ratty men. This is a very fast moving read that keeps you on your toes, there are not dull minute. Kizzie’s is a women after my own heart she is years ahead of herself trying to prove herself in a man’s world were women knew their place never stepping out of line always a lady. Kizzie is strong does what she thinks is best for her family which puts her in danger sometimes. She is a go getter, a shaker, and a mover not letting much grass grow under her feet. This is what catches the eye of Leander from the moment he sees her in a head to head fight for her life not backing down he knew she was the women for him. Now he just needs to find out her name and make her see his as the man of her dreams which is not an easy task to fill. I loved their baiting how they go for what they believe in and are willing to fight to get it. This was an exciting read that is fun loving at times.

There is nothing but nothing I didn’t like about this story it has thrills, chills, excitement, fights, danger, a sweet slow build up of love, clean and just plain fun. Leander is a true gentleman who goes to bat for Kiszzie more than once. She sees him as a nosey more or less stalker who won’t let her alone. Slowly she sees him for what he is. It was a wonderful pleasure to watch these two fall in love and trying to overcome the odds.  This is a story about growing, finding your way, stepping out and being different, going for what you believe in, overcoming fear and taking the bull by the horn. I loved the characters Charlie is a wise man who sees things others do not. Her father is just like Kizzie bullheaded and set in his way. He has a lot to learn about women and really learns to see Kizzie for how she is and be proud of the person she has become. Kizzie is a very kind and sweet girl who will go toe to toe with you but is giving as well. Grandma is back with some wise words and thoughts.  I have just loved her throughout this whole series.

This is a very well written story that hooks you from the first page. There is lots of thrilling action and danger plus a clean romance. You have everything between these pages that makes  a wonderful romance that you won’t be able to put down. I started this book at night BIG MISTAKE before I knew it, it was well past my bedtime but well worth being tried the next day. This was such a fun read with laughter as well as sorrow. I really enjoyed the ending what a delightful read. The only thing that disappointed me was it had to end I really could have read on seeing them each step of their way to old age as they overcome the odds of life and land bring the next generation of children who I am sure have as much spirit as these two have.  This is a story you don’t want to miss, each one of the books in this series has been a delight and full of humor, danger, love and lots of meaning along with a wonderful grandmother who shows her love with each stitch she puts in the quilts she makes them telling a story about their wonderful family that grows learns and loves.

Note: Throughout the year I pick stories that really reached out and touched me in some way they become my favorite read. I have picked this story as one of my favorite reads for 2017.

About Kizzie’s Kisses:

Running from hostile Indians attacking Salina, Kansas in 1862, feisty Kizzie Atwell, Grandma Mary’s oldest grandchild, runs into freighter Leander Jones traveling the Smoky Hill Trail. He is as interested in her as his stallion is in her mare. The two join forces to prevent the Fort Riley Army captain from requisitioning their prize horses for the cavalry. Fighting off bushwhackers and a thieving bull-whacker binds their bargain.

In 1865, at the victory dance held at Fort Riley to celebrate the end of the Civil War, Kizzie is asked to participate in a fund-raiser to aid the Sanitary Commission helping injured and sick soldiers. It involves chaste sweetheart kisses in exchange for tickets purchased by officers and guests. As a contract freighter for the Army, Leander is invited. Much to Leander’s chagrin, before his chance to claim his kiss, Kizzie’s uncle steps in and puts an end to the kissing game.

Is Leander out of luck, or will the bargain Kizzie and Leander made three years earlier to save their horses lead to a more romantic bargain sealed with a kiss?

Grandma's Wedding Quilts

Grandma's Wedding Quilts - THE PREQUEL
by Kate Cambridge

This sets up the whole series with some big surprises as the author takes you through the donation of a trunk with a few quilts in them. Hannah just knows they are special she can just feel it in her bones.  The quilts are unusual after looking over them it looks like they are trying to tell a story. With a little research she finds the sister of the daughter who donated them. After talking with her she knows she must find more answers.  She turns to an old friend who she knows from collage who just happens to be her secret crush from days gone by. Together they research and find out more about the family and the grandmother who made these quilts with love for her family. At the end of this story you are in for a surprise that will just about bring tears to your eyes.

This is a short fun read filled with a lot going on in short time. You are never left guessing as to what is going on. Every scene plays a very big part in the telling of this story. There are no fillers at all just a nice clean fun read with meaning, wishes, needs, and love of an old woman who wants to keep her family quilts alive and protected.  There is sadness that makes all wish these quilts had been found earlier but the story has lots of meaning bring together people from long ago to the people of the present.

I really loved these characters from Hannah to Audrina their story really touched me. I doubt anyone can read this and not feel the pain, love and the pull from this family. My heart breaks for each of these characters for everything they gain they must lose something. The author leaves you with a mystery of where and who has the quilts. You will find out just how important tracking down the quilts are not only to the museum who needs find away to bring income in if they want to keep the doors open but to the family who the quilts belong to.

I thought this was really well written, I love the mystery as well as the big ending that just broke my heart and made me smile big. I really like that there is still mystery to be found out. This is a great start to an outstanding series. I can’t wait to read them all.
